  1. I got an e-mail from mac awhile ago; he's doing very well and happy with his lady friend. Maybe we can coax him back with an offer of a cold one. What do you say, mac old buddy? I'll buy the first round.

    Slackware

    1. When the first install cd has finished booting up then hit enter to load the default kernel. 2. Log-in as root 3. Start-up the partitioner with the command cfdisk /dev/hda 4. You will either create new primary partitions or delete existing partitions. p.s. Yes, you can use the entire drive for slackware. Just delete the existing partitions and create a new swap partition and a root partition.

One of the first things you've gotta do marty is partition your disk with the command #cfdisk /dev/hda. If that command doesn't work then try #cfdisk /dev/sda if you've got a scsi drive. During the partitioning process don't forget to set your swap partition as type 82 and make your root partition bootable. That may be why your system is not booting. Did you install lilo to the MBR? If you didn't do that then that could be another reason why it won't boot. Just hitting enter when Install CD #1 finishes booting up will load the default 2.6.21.5 kernel. After you've partitioned your drive t

    Road Trip

Hi Guys, Thank you everyone for the well wishes. I just arrived yesterday:-) Driving from my home (Prince Rupert, B.C.) to Edmonton, Alberta------>Drumheller, Alberta------->Vancouver, BC (My Dad's place). I covered about 1800 miles. I had a very interesting trip. When I get home I'll post some pictures from the trip. I'm writing this from my Dad's PC near Vancouver, B.C. I'll post when I can over the next two weeks; I'm looking forward to taking my kids to playland in Vancouver. I love Vacations:-)

    Road Trip

I'm going off-line as I prepare for my road trip East. I'm really looking forward to this, I'm going to be traveling East to Alberta for about a week ( looking forward to seeing the badlands and dinosaur bones). Then I'll be heading back into BC to visit with my Dad down south in Vancouver. I hope everyone is having a wonderful 4th of July. I'll be off-line for 1-2 weeks. See you soon. hitest

    Slackware

I'm running Slack 12 and like it a lot, it is the newest, most up-to-date version of Slackware. Slack 11 is now out-dated.
  10. I hope that you all have a fantastic Independence Day! Happy 4th of July everyone!!!
  11. Thanks, Brian, it was a good day:-) Enjoy your 4th of July today!!

    Slackware

Slack is quite different from Mandrake and Ubuntu. There are no GUIs to guide you through the install. The install is text based. Also you will need to partition your HD and enter the settings manually; I suggest that you use cfdisk which is more user-friendly than fdisk. Back-up your Windows partition before you attempt this in case things go awry. I like Slackware, but not everyone does. I strongly suggest that you read the book before you start, Marty as that will make the install less frustrating. Slack Book
  13. Happy Birthday, TT_75!!!! I hope you're enjoying your day, man! Have a cold one for me!
  14. Slackware is a bit more difficult to use than Ubuntu. You can buy Slackware disks at the Slackware store on-line if you like, Marty. http://www.slackware.com/ Before you try-out Slackware I would read the Slack book which you can see at the Slackware website. Slackware does not use a graphical interface to install, you will set-up your system at the command line with your keyboard and edit text files to configure your system. I am not trying to discourage you Marty, just letting you know what you're in for.
  15. Yes, you still need to configure X yourself ( you can use xorgsetup to automatically assign settings, but I prefer xorgconfig). Yep, slack 12.0 is now running 2.6.21.5. I installed a 2.6x kernel in 10.2 and 11.0, but, that was a bit of a PITA. My 3 install CDs are downloaded, burned for 12.0. Going to install tomorrow, it is getting late:-) I've left my bit torrent client uploading tonight for all of you slackers out there:-) I love slack.
  16. Slackware 12.0 is released; it is time to get your Slack on:-) http://www.slackware.com/
