BuddyHolly, be careful out there when you urge people to go ahead with the download.
Might want to look at this: http://www.computerworld.com:80/action/art...;intsrc=hm_list
Also just noticed that my gold shield notifying me of the SP3 download has disappeared.

Liz -- I haven't been on the board in a while but remember
your agreeing with me quite a while back about not being
ready for IE7. Seems like long ago when I finally jumped
into IE7 and think it's just great. I always loved the tabs with
Firefox and now I can have them on IE too.
There's really nothing to dislike.

Sure appreciate the discussion. When I saw SP3 show up ready to download, I assumed
it was okay but knew to check this wonderful board first.
I also read in an article today that SP3 was not going out until sometime in June to the people
who have their computers set to automatically download updates .
After reading the comments here, I'll wait until June for sure.
Thanks so much!

you may have to clear the outlook express cache
and to do that
Thanks, Marty -- good to hear from you and appreciate the input!

When you downloaded Spybot, did you enable TeaTimer?
http://www.malwarehelp.org/how-to-enabledi...t-teatimer.html
Mark
I didn't think so -- I didn't intend to enable anything. I just checked and I do NOT have it enabled, nor SD helper. Was just planning to use for scans.
I have to be away from computer again but will check back later. Thanks! n

Will sure appreciate anyone's time.
Computer: XP home ed -- Pentium D processor with plenty of power and plenty of memory.
I've used Outlook Express probably since about 1993 on several different computers
with not one problem over the years.
In the last week, however, a couple of times, it has stopped functioning.
The first time, all of a sudden the messages in my Sent and Deleted folders disappeared.
I kept checking to make sure I wasn't dreaming, but they were gone.
I closed the program and reopened [without restarting the computer]
and all messages were there and everything was normal.
Since then, 3 or 4 times, I couldn't delete a particular message and then couldn't view it.
I would get a little error message that the email couldn't be displayed.
Once again, when I close out the program [OE], and open it back up, it's fine.
Do you think I'm heading toward some major problem?
The only thing I have done different to my computer before this happened
was to add Spybot Search and Destroy, which I have used before
but had just never put on this particular computer because I was already using
Adaware, Spysweeper, and Win Defender.
As I mentioned, I have never ever seen this happen
before, so it is worrying me.
Thanks so much,
nancy

Bubba Bob and Barb -- Thanks so much! Appreciate your time!
Sethook, you shouldn't answer like that to a wimp!!

Am still a wimp and am wondering if everyone is okay
with the latest XP updates?
Will appreciate your time!

Try running ccleaner and cleanup. they will clean all cookies. Log of then log back on, got to myyahoo first then check the cookies folder. this should help sort which cookies are from myyahoo.com.
M
thanks, Mikex. I can just try that with spysweeper since it seems to be getting everything. Good idea!
-
Does anyone know what cookie is associated with a myyahoo page?
Since the last webroot spysweeper update, the scans knock out everything I like to keep customized, including my myyahoo home page.
I have tried to figure this out by the process of elimination, but I can't seem to do it.
Sure would appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks!

Appreciate your time so much, as always.

In trying to look at a segment via the This Week with George Stephanopoulos on ABC website, whether I try on IE or Firefox, it runs for 10 seconds and then hesitates [buffers, I guess]. If this were dial up, I would understand, but we have DSL which is pretty fast. Is there a configuration that will set video clips to totally download before playing?
Sure will appreciate your time and assistance!

Appreciate JSKY and additional info from Terrorist --
After posting here, I read something about how sites can actually send
malicious software to your computer as you view a video.
I guess a video would be considered a download,
so maybe I'd better play it safe. What The Terrorist said
concerns me -- divorce or no divorce!!
This was just a speech I wanted to wanted to watch for inspiration
and enjoyment -- not something I have to see.
Thanks again. I really do appreciate your time. Thanks to you all,
I continue to learn.

JSKY --
This is what it had on the red x on the google search for the site:
"Misleading business practices [Reported]"
Do you think that this is more like what you were talking about and
as long as I just view the speech, I'll be okay?
Thanks! nancy

JSKY --
Great! I'll do this. Thanks so very much!!!

Sure would appreciate anyone's time.
I use SiteAdvisor [the free McAfee program that tests sites for safety] and love it.
However, last night when I searched for and found a speech I wanted to hear,
I started viewing it via Real Player and all of a sudden noticed that the
siteadvisor indicator was RED!
I got out of the site but want to ask if anyone knows what could be wrong
with my viewing this speech. It is only a speech of a political strategist that I love
and enjoy listening to -- one I hear on CNN, ABC,and NPR.
The site itself is blinkx.com.
If anyone thinks it is okay for me to view this speech, please let me know.
Thanks! nancy

Get that baby off your mic port if you value your sound quality. Line in is where you want to be.
Am planning to do some of the same and really appreciate
the mention of using line in over mic in. It's so great when you guys
add a little extra to the answer!

Hey....I decided to come back and check post again. Appreciate the extra input. I'm going to take the cd over for sure. I just wanted to make sure y'all thought it was the same as the initial SP2 download I would get now [before updates].
Thanks again!
-
Thanks, Guys -- I sure appreciate your time. Was hoping y'all would be around!

I have a friend who has an old XP that still has SP1 on it.
I have the original disc I ordered from Microsoft way back when SP2
first came out and was wondering if I could use that to save her some
time or would it be better for her to download it since so much
time has passed?
I didn't know if they might have changed the download to include
some of the fixes....since it seems as though we've had hundreds!
Sure would appreciate your time.

When I saw this in the tech news today, I decided to see if
it had been addressed on this board. After not seeing anything,
I've decided I should post this link because it does mention
a work around.
Since I don't have IE7, I haven't had the problem, but am sharing
in case it helps anyone else. I apologize if this is very old news
to the rest of you! nancy

Out Of The Blue -- No Live Stream
in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Posted
Hello out there...
Will sure appreciate your help! Apologize for the length but wanted
you to know how I have tried to troubleshoot so far.
I am desperate to help my 85 yr old mother! For 3 full years,
she has had no problem accessing live streaming video from
the National Zoo pandacam. She has watched the youngest panda Tai
since his birth until now and checks 3-4 times a day to see what he's up to.
For the last 2-3 days, has been unable to get video.
The screen says "Ready" so she clicks on the play button
and nothing happens. [actually, you don't normally have to click on anything
-- it just automatically begins] The website comes up for her just fine,
but the video is blank. I tested it on my computer and I can get it fine,
so it's not the website.
I had her delete all temp internet files and cookies -- then restart.
That made no difference.
Thinking it could be her video card, I had her go to CNN and
click to watch one of their video recordings. She could watch that just fine,
so I know her video card can display.
I did not think there could be a difference in live streaming
and a recording, but just in case had her go to an espn live racing page,
and she could not get the live stream of a race track, yet I could on my computer.
Then I had her go to CNN's LIVE page
cnn.com/video/live/live.html?stream=stream1 and try to click on
one of their live streaming choices. She got this response:
CONNECTION ERROR: The video player cannot establish
a connection to the server. Please try again later.
Any ideas? She does not fool with any settings,
so nothing has changed about her computer. This has happened out of the blue.
[XP - IE6]
She has Cable Internet service. Is it possible that they are blocking live steaming?
Thank you so much for reading this.
Will keep my fingers crossed that someone has an idea! nancy
