  1. sometimes windows simply doesn't recognize hardware or in the case of RAM and hard drives their full capacity. i'm sure there are software methods but I'd say if you can CAREFULLY pop it open (read the manual that came with it) and see if there is indeed a stick of 512. i think my HP was advertized as having better specs than it actually does. also if its 2 sticks of 256 maybe one isn't in all the way and needs a nudge; I doubt it has to room to be out of a place in a notebook but it happens on desktops...
  2. eh i thought some laptops that came with xp had to be activated within 30 days or something. and there are other "trial" versions on the internet *shifty eyes*...
  3. maybe deepfreeze, but that can be a pain. i guess you could have deepfreeze protect a partition (with all the important system files) and another that is for user files that it doesn't delete after reboot. you could also try to backup; a stratigy such as Ghost's "ISO image backup" may work for you.
  4. First off I'd like to say, "I know, I know" use google, search the forums. I am about to run some antivirus programs, because it has been a lil while since I have, so hopefully that will fix any problems, however I thought I'd post because, I'd like to see if anyone else is getting these symptoms..at first I figured it was just my usual low amount of RAM, but when that is the root cause, my computer simply freezes. This on the other hand is more mysterious. This has happened for a few days which has made it more and more disconcerning (< did I use that word right?). Anyway explorer (explor
  5. I'm not sure if this is off-topic but, unless you plan to use this contact for say selling something, I recommend using an image showing your email address to thwart the robots. If you are lazy like me use this:
  6. I used this program a few years back. Ghost Mouse 2.0 http://www.freewareweb.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?ID=375 thats a mirror I found quickly with google, anyways, what you can do is run the program which setups a "macro", and "record" it to close the stuff and press and buttons on dialog buttons and such. The problem comes when the windows are moved around, because it just follows the mouse and clicks on a timer. I got it to work to connect to the internet through AOL a few years back, I don't know if this will help but worth a try.

  8. usually you should look into where the problem is coming from, however it may be a missing .dll file or something, maybe you uninstalled something, or it didn't completely uninstall, try downloading a start up manager, such as codestuff starter, then uncheck any startups you don't recognize or don't need anymore. That should fix it. I've had similiar problems like this on my comp and this fixed it right up. http://members.lycos.co.uk/codestuff/
  9. I'm running on a PIII 803mhz w/ 128mb RAM XP Pro w00t w00t, actually it sux, I upgraded from MS ME. It runs okay, but anytime I max out the RAM, BAM! it freezes. So yeah.
  10. Unrelated to this thread and I am sorry, but its nice to see some old "faces" here fom the TTV board As compinsation, as il_wilccan said it COULD be a RAM issue (lack thereof) however I doubt it since, lack of RAM usually results in the computer to simply freeze. I have 128mb on my PIII, and run into a lack of RAM almost daily A HJT log is always helpful, but system specs could also be beneficial
  11. I understand that you want control of your website, though I recommend free alternatives: Angelfire I used them for several years, however they don't support php, asp, or perl. Though they do allow file transfer either through their built-in interface or an external ftp client. Beware, in recent years they have many ads and popups. Blogger If you want to create a blog (easy to use interface, no ads, and ability to cutomize the html template is nice, I still use their services. Owned by Google, and has unlimited picture upload as well as unlimited blogs.) Frihost I currently use them, they have
