  1. In reality I rarely "snack" I eat a couple times a day , and often spread a meal out over a few hours , but rarely go in for just making something small just to nibble a bit of it. Today I caught "marinated chicken fajita meat" on for a dollar a pound (it turned out to be a mix of boneless skinless thighs and boneless skinless breasts) so I bought seven pounds, split it into three packs , froze two and cooked the third on the grill pan. Then I sliced it up into thin strips. Made Pica De Gallo (Diced onions, anaheim chilis, tomatoes, cilantro and lime juice) and made a couple fajitas (one
  2. Pulled a peice of Beef Tenderloin (Chateau Briand, Filet Mignon) out of the freezer and am brining it in marinade. Will have to decide on whether to cook it filet mignon style or cut thin and pound thinner and quick cook like philly cheese steak / minute steak. Don't feel like going the chateau briand path of cooking it whole and then slicing it thin unless I do that on the grill outside.
  3. Today was chili dogs; oscar meyers with mustard, chunky sirloin chili no beans, and diced onions. Gonna have to make a couple chili bean and cheese burritos later. Yesterday was Shrimp Diablo since they had "broken jumbo shrimp" on for $3.49 a pound. Simple version is just to take the shrimp, some hot sauce (tobasco or wing sauce or whatever you like ) and butter or just red pepper seed and olive oil , sautee till the shrimp are done and pour it on pasta. I prefer a more complex version. I took 1.5 pounds of shrimp, peeled and deveined them. Sautee a head of garlic (diced) and equa
  4. I heard that a hotel company in NZ is catching flak over billing guests who were trapped in the hotel when the elevators and stairs collapsed for an additional day, since they did not vacate the hotel by 8am; and storage and parking fees for their cars crushed when the parking garage collapsed. Yeah, Marty seems to have caught more than his share of natural disasters this year.
  5. Yes, I buy the Smart Balance spread, Smart Balance Sour Cream, and Smart Balance fat free and 1% milk. All are quite good. But that is so I can occasionally enjoy myself and go eat stuff that is good. I avoid salt substitutes, as if I do not get enough salt my potassium level gets dangerously high. I exercise amply ( My dogs make me take them for a morning run 3-4 miles every morning and we double that on weekends and holidays) not to mention my home gym equipment. But due to thyroid problems I still have high cholesterol despite taking statins. I just wish they would go ahead and p
  6. Tried a new restarurant for lunch. $4.99 fajita special (beef, chicken or combo) . Massive amount of really good food. Started off with a bowl of borracho beans (think spicy bean and bacon soup ) chips and two types of salsa (traditional red and green tomatillo lime). Did not have time to finish the chips before the platters fo fajitas came out of the kitchen. Enough food on each plate for two to eat., smokey pureed beans, golden cumin rice, lettuce tomato and jalapeno salad, sour cream , grilled onions and peppers and of course lots of super tender beef and chicken and a steamer full of cor
  7. Never had one blow , because I always turn em off when not in use; but have heard of to many cases where an unattended computer was the source of a major fire to want to take the risk. If I am present, the extinguisher is just by the door along with a kill switch for the outlets the UPS. Not present and who knows what could happen. Never really had an issue with a computer slowing down. I guess I just take care of them and do routine and preventative maintenance. Anyone else surf multi tab and have multiple windows (applications) open and use F11 to go full screen once you select a tab and the
  8. No, 2.5"drives for laptops get power and transfer data over a single connector. 3.5" drives for PCs have a seperate connector for power. I did remember to check those links for 2.5" vs 3.5" didn't I?
  9. Still haven't heard if they are having the annual fireworks display at the country club down the street this year. I did not see anything setup during my dog run this morning, but then again it is probably in the middle or far side that they will setup. But I did hear that Burger King is having original Chicken Sandwiches for $1.04 to celebrate http://foodbeast.com/content/2011/06/30/burger-king-limited-1-04-original-chicken-sandwich/ Already did the cookout at the kids house with hotdogs and hamburgers yesterday, so today a chicken sandwich sounds good.
  10. If it were just one drive , I would go with an enclosure; but with more than one and just temp need I would just go with USB adapters. If you have different kinds of drives go with a dual adapater like this one available at your local walmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sabrent-USB-2.0-to-IDE-SATA-Hard-Drive-Converter/15819320?sourceid=1500000000000003142050&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=15819320 Cheaper online option http://www.alwayslowest.com/AL/index.cfm?fuseaction=shop.dspSpecs∂=25939199
  11. Already had a week of triple digits, we had a cool front so the high temps dropped to 95-99 degrees, but the heat is due back today or tomorrow. I am thinking of making a batch of Gazpacho , something nice and cool. Gazpacho turned out great. Three celery stalks, one red onion, anaheim chile, red bell pepper, two jalapenos, two cucumbers, 28oz can of crushed tomatoes with basil, garlic, tomato juice and a can of beef stock. Great warm, even better cold. Last week I made bread pudding in a pressure cooker. Total cook tiem 15 minutes, I think I would increase that to 20 next time ; followed
  12. I saw an interesting report that indicated that there were observable analomies prior to the Japanese eartthquake. I believe they were thermal (IR) images but it could have been magnetic sensors. Needless to say, it appears that with proper monitoring equipment it may be possible to predict major quakes 24 hours or more in advance. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0264370702000133 http://fatwaramdani.wordpress.com/2011/05/26/land-surface-temperature-anomaly-before-and-after-9-0-m-earthquake-on-march-11th-2011-in-sendai-tohoku-region-japan-multisensor-analysis/
  13. There should be a bios setting "On resume from power failure:" change it from "do nothing" to "Turn on computer" Additionally there should be a "Wake on LAN" and "Wake on Ring" setting. The Wake on LAN setting can be used to power up the computer by turning on a router (Useful in a business where you have multiple computers connected to a server or router. Turn the router off at end of day , and the next morning just turn it on and all the computers boot up and go to login screens). Wake on ring can do the same by connecting a phone line to the modem and just dialing the phone number (must
  14. Ah crap, what happend ? I posted and then it said post deleted. Must have hit the wrong button. Bored are we? Do not deny it, denial is not a river in Egypt. I am bored too, but that is because it is so freaking hot for this time of year, even by Texas standards. Been in the nineties all week , 99 yesterday and was 97 at 4PM today. That is ten degrees above normal for this time of year, and the summer high pressure dome appears to have settled in early meaning we have nothing but clear skies and increasing heat in sight until fall. It got hot before we had a chance to acclimatize and stepping

We are now fostering two puppies for the rescue group http://www.dfwrescueme.org/ we got the last one from. They had dysentery and the pound was going to put them down as they did not have the resources to isolate and care for sick puppies (fearing it could spread to all the dogs in the pound). The group rescued them and took them to the vet for diagnosis and treatment and wanted someone to nurse them back to health and socialize them so they will be adoptable. They are australian shepherd mixes. As you can see, they are now quite healthy and cute.
  16. Is this a wireless router or are you trying to set up a ad hoc wireless network between the computers using wifi adapaters and no router? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Setting-up-a-home-network http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Set-up-a-computer-to-computer-ad-hoc-network
  17. Start a thread on the malware board, they will want you to run a couple preliminary tools to see what is doing this so they can plan how to remove it.
  18. Sure has been quiet here lately. Made another batch of homemade cheese. Three cups buttermilk, One gallon milk, a bunch of dill chopped fine, and granulated garlic to taste. Heated up until it formed curds (generally 175-195 degrees depending on fat and protein content). Strained and then drained in a collander lined with cheesecloth. Purreed in a blender because I wanted it as a spread for crackers and english muffins.
  19. Okay a quick background on SPAM. Most countries have mandated that legitimate businesses include an opt out link that you can click and get deleted from their mailing lists, and since they are law abiding and face penalties if they spam you after you told them to stop they will take you off their list. But Spammers are different, they often deal with illegitimate businesses and scams, or they are getting a referral commission and the actual product producer has no knowledge of how they are recruiting customers or making sales. Governments are increasingly prosecuting spammers of this sort, s

He is a real sweety, and he has settled in nicely. He uses the potty patch , most of the time, sometimes he misses and pees beside it. He loves the walks, and does that characteristic Rottweiler bounce jump of joy all the time. I went to Petco to see about getting a doggie backpack for the Husky so she can carry some bottles of water and a collapsible drink bowl on the long runs (we do five miles on Sat and Sun ) to give her a bit more exercise. The biggest they had was a Large, and I was about to get it but it looked small. I checked the measurements and it said it fit dogs with up to 15
  21. It's probably the other side of the Island, but I heard that a tornado hit Aukland NZ yesterday http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/may/03/deadly-tornado-hits-auckland http://www.novafm.com.au/article_auckland-tornado-kills-two-people_108259 Damage slideshow http://www.novafm.com.au/photo_auckland-tornado-damage_277695 Video of tornado on the ground http://www.novafm.com.au/video_chasing-auckland-tornado-in-shopping-centre_111205

    Happy Easter

Had dinner at the kids, brought the turkey, dressing, etc. The OL enjoyed it more than I did.
  23. Been cleaning out the fridge, giving all the jars of soup from the winter to the dogs. A little each day now that summer approaches. I have zuccini and yellow squash, shitake mushrooms, celery, onions, and leeks that need to get used (and shallots are on sale for 99cents a pound so I will probably get them, and corn is 4 ears for a dollar) a pint of half and half . So I need to figure out something that uses at least some of those. Maybe a squash casserole with yellow squash, bacon, cheddar cheese, half and half , eggs and stale bread.
  24. My OL does farmville (and the other facebook games), but her farm is not all wasted like that. She has as much as possible in fields so she can make her goals quickly and participate in "co-op" grows with her internet friends. Personally I prefer to come home and water my real plants, mow my real lawn, cook real food in the real kitchen etc.
