  1. I never actually did any war driving when it was the cool thing to do......but today I had the misfortune to have to use the Phoenix (aka Hell) city mass transit system in order to get to my chiropractor appointment.

Anyone who has been here will of course know that Phoenix and mass transit is an oxymoron. However that's another story..........Anyway on the way back home (a hour and a half trip on two buses that can be made in 15 minutes if you drive 20 miles per hour) I got bored. Due to the fact that the lights were apparently broken in the bus at 7:30 pm and I forgot to bring my flashlight I was unable to read the newspaper that I brought along for the trip. Then I remembered my new Droid! (yes folks, it's another droid story.) biggrin.gif

I turned it on, opened the wireless properties, and watched all the wifi signals as we drove down the avenue. Truly amazing. Hundreds of wifi network names came and then dissapreared as we chugged down the street. A lot of the names were funny. A few: "keep out", "I hate cable", "horny pat", "No More Wife", and the best one by far came as we were driving past a bar. It was simpy:"BEER".

What was really amazing though was the fact that many of them were completely unsecured. Not even WEP.

    I think I found a new hobby.

  2. OK. So just like most people I've resolved to cull a few pounds this year.

Actually I committed to that project last Nov. 12. ..... 25 lbs to be exact. When I recently bought a new battery for the scale it dawned on me that November was probably NOT a good time to start a diet. I've now adjusted my goals to first get down to the Nov. 12th weight again.

So how are you all doing?biggrin.gif

  3. Thanks all. Feeling better now.

It is almost like tweeting isn't it.

That's not a good sign. I'm still getting used to the Droid. Typing is a major challenge. The Droid is filling the void though, as my main PC has bit the dust.

    Major rebuild project starting tomorrow.

    I will keep you posted.

  4. Thanks sultan.

My doc said he couldn't do anything for me and sent me to an opthomologist. I have a lacerated cornea.

The S.O. almost set the house on fire around 4am.

She bought two old lamps and revamped them.

But she lost interest and didn't finish the shade.

Hence, a piece was hitting the light bulb and caught on fire. When I put it out some molton fabric hit me in the face and eye.

She can't understand why I'm upset.

I also found out that I have cataracts.

The hits just keep on comin'.

  5. Hope everyone. Had a good holiday.

I,m writing this while standing outside my doctors office.

The idea is to not come home sicker than when I got here.

    Wish me well.

I wish you the best, and hope you have a Happy New Year.

  7. Best of luck on the hospital stay . I was in one last year at this time for about a week due to doctor caused staph infection.

It's never fun. Keep us updated on your status please.

Also, I'd probably wear surgical gloves while using the public computers. I'm sure your room will be chock full of them. biggrin.gif

You don't want to add another infection to the list.

  9. How I came to to buy a Droid.

After two months of intensive cell phone research I just today ordered a Motorola Droid...... By default.

I was leaning towards the HTC Droid Eris because of it's lighter profile and lower price. So when I saw it for FREE (with new 2 year agreement) yesterday (only) on Dell's website it was a given that Eris would be my choice. Problem was I saw the ad late in the day. By the time I was set to order it online my damn computer crashed. So I restart Windoze XP, get back to Dell site, fill in all the info, (also have to pick second phone for my S.O. who wants a "simple phone"), press the submit button, and Voila! Dell says my cart is empty. mad.gif

So I start all over again and this time the second phone is missing from the availability list. I restart computer, dump cache etc. Same problem. The second phone is still missing. Now I call Dell figuring I'll just order over the phone. Nope. The "simple phone" is no longer available. Apparently someone bought the last one right before I submitted my order. Now I'm getting upset and time is ticking. So I hang up.

I start doing some fast research on the possible alternative phones and finally find the Samsung Convoy. A bit of background info should be noted here: My S.O. has some vision and hearing problems so the phone needs to be easy to use, loud, and hard to break. The Convoy seems to fit the bill and being "military" rated she can probably drop it without worrying.

OK. Back to my attempt at finalizing the order. I get back to Dell's website, fill out the order with the Eris and Convoy selected and submit it.

..........And now the Eris is no longer free! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH! Sale is over. It is $49.99 which is still a good price, but hey....I wanted FREE.

It's at this point that I realize that the Moto Droid is still on sale for $119 which is the best price I've seen. So I figure....."why not.....I'll be an early Christmas present".

And that's how I became a Droid owner. Both phones should be here in a few days. I can't wait.smile.gif

  10. Hi thought this might give out a chuckle, god knows we need lots.

A woman goes into Wal-Mart to buy a rod and reel for her grandson's birthday.

She doesn't know which one to get so she just grabs one and goes over to the

counter. A Wal-Mart associate is standing there wearing dark shades.

She says, "Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel'"

He says, "Ma'am, I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the

counter, I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound it

    makes.

She doesn't believe him but drops it on the counter anyway.

He says, "That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod with a Zebco 404 reel and

10-LB. Test line. It's a good all around combination; and it's on sale this week

    for only $20.00."

She says, "It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it

dropping on the counter. I'll take it!"

As she opens her purse, her credit card drops on the floor.

'Oh, that sounds like a Master Card," he says.

She bends down to pick it up and accidentally breaks wind.

At first she is really embarrassed, but then realizes there is no way the blind

clerk could tell it was she who tooted.

Being blind, he wouldn't know that she was the only person around.

The man rings up the sale and says, "That'll be $34.50 please. "

The woman is totally confused by this and asks, "Didn't you tell me the rod and

reel were on sale for $20.00' How did you get $34.50'"

He replies, "Yes, Ma'am. The rod and reel is $20.00, but the Duck Call is $11.00

and the Catfish Bait is $3.50. Luv ya
