  3. Hello World. I've been MIA for a few years. Thought I'd stop in. I removed my old Santa Cat avatar and tried to upload a new one from a file. But the feature is greyed out. What's up with that?Hope you're all well. Thanks

  4. Hi Marty. I was just thinking about you. Glad to hear you're OK.

I haven't been around here in ages.

Email sounds like a good idea. But all my PM's disappeared when BT crashed, your email address along with them.

    Send me a new one?

    Thanks,

    Joe

  5. Last year my S.O. and I were wishing for our first flat panel HDTV. After months of research we settled on the Samsung 46 in. 7000 series .We were all set to buy it for approx $2300 US. But it didn't happen. Life's little problems got in the way and we put it on the back burner.

The yankering for a new TV kicked in again when my Sony Trinitron 32 in. cathode TV started giving us problems recently. She talked me into going to Best Buy and Fry's to see this years crop. So off we go....I'm checking out the new Samsung "C" series (apparent upgrade to last yeats "B" series. I talked to the BB sales rep (surprisingly this guy DID know the difference between a diode and a commode) and asked him about the upgrades or benifits in this years model as opposed to last years. Well it turned out they had two last year models in stock. One floor model and one new in a box. I ended up buying the 2009 model new in box for 1599.00. And it is the 8000 series, a step up from the 7000.

This years model is rated as LED- 3D. 3 D dosen't interest me at all. I'm much more of a Strangers on a Train guy than a Snakes on a plane guy.

But I know there must be a lot of improvements over last years products.

I haven't picked the TV up yet. I might go there today. But maybe not. I just discovered that BB has free delivery.

Does anyone have any inside info on any of the TV's I mentioned???

    Thanks,

    Joe

  6. Well I doubt I would have gone for it.

Probably a Netbook or even an ereader with some ebooks.

I like the new Windows Tablets that are coming out with two touch screens which fold together to protect themselves. But they are still a bit pricey.

Or the Compal which runs android

I agree Pete. But she works with laptops all day on the job. So this was a "special " gift.

  7. Wow, did you get caught up in the hype or something?

(Procrastinate a little more and the avatar will be current again.)

I guess so. It IS really beautiful, aside from the fact that it's basically a throwaway device and I could get a much more powerful laptop for less$$. But it's hers, not mine & she already likes it. Looks like it's official. I'll now be hanging out in the Mac forum.

Re: avatar. Good idea. After all, there's only 133 shopping days 'til Christmas.

  8. OK. Long story short. My S.O. has been home from the hospital for a week and is recovering nicely.

Today is her birthday. And a big one. One of those decade ones. ( last one I had REALLY opened up my mid-life crisis....you wait you young people, you'll see...)

Anyway, I just bought her an iPad wifi 32 gb. (she'd never use the 3G).

I'm feeling guilty for some reason. Those of you that know me KNOW that I'm totally open source, hate DRM, love to get inside my PC's, etc. And yet I bought a $600 cute interface that ALLOWS you to buy things from Apple! And not much more. Am I missing something here?

I bought it for her because I thought she could use it while recovering. Instead of sitting in front of the desktop. But she really doesn't like to pay for everything as she goes. (ie the Apple App store.)

What do you think? I haven't given it to her yet.

I REALLY have to update that avatar!

  9. I've been MIA friom BT recently. But I thought I should post this.

My S.O. came home from work two weeks ago with severe stomach cramps. She took the next two days off. (this is something she rarely does). I started getting nervous on day three. She didn't want to go to the doctor, but after talking to my MD friend and him telling me that she needs to be in the hospital NOW, I picked her up out of the chair, and pushed her out the door.

We got into her doctor's office just before closing time...... Long story short, 8 hours later she was undergoing major emergency surgery.

I wasn't sure that she would make it through the surgery, as it took over two and a half hours.

She came home yesterday. It's going to be a difficult recovery, but it WILL be a recovery.

This happened to a healthy woman with very little medical problems.

I'm still a fking nervous wreck but she is healing well.

Take some time to tell the people that are important to you that you love them. It can all end very quickly.

    Joe

edit: I guess I should change my avatar?
