  1. Just run it from the open for business disk...the expansion should still be operational...just installed open for business on my daughters machine and it ask for the "pets" expansion disk(the last expansion disk installed and run)...runs fine from there(with open for business)...it's something to do with how the games are saved i think..

  2. well has i occurred to you that an old 98 machine might have more than a few issues with hardware...firmware...and software compatibility..?? trying to lay xp on top of that system is obviously a stretch...

i didn't see your machines spec's so maybe i'm missing something here but i doubt very few 98se to xp upgrades go well...or easily...

i've run machines as far back as dos 6.2 (or earlier actually) and xp is by far the best most stable albeit not perfect

  3. Antonio..i think you got a great deal on that computer...i bought a similar(but with less ram) 1720nx refurbished for a little more money for my daughter about 9 month ago and no problems whatsoever...

you will have to clean up all the "junk" Compaq loads on it though...but it's a solid machine and a great price...!!

  5. I'm not a windows user but I know you can make DVD from video edited in movie maker.

..well since you not a windows user..i'm not sure where you are getting your info....but Windows Movie Maker simply does not support saving a project you compile in DVD format..

    from the help file:(direct cut/paste)

    Saving and sending movies

The Save Movie Wizard lets you quickly save your project as a final movie. The timing, layout, and contents of the project are saved as one complete movie. You can save and store the movie on your computer or on a recordable CD, or you can send it as an attachment in an e-mail message or to a video hosting provider on the Web. In addition to these choices, you can choose to record your movie to a tape in a DV camera.

    ..

This page of the Save Movie Wizard lets you select which movie saving option you want to use, depending on what you want to do with the final movie. The following options appear on this page.

    My computer

Specifies that you want to save your movie to your local computer or to a shared network location.

    Recordable CD

Specifies that you want to save your movie to a recordable or rewriteable CD (CD-R or CD-RW). Choose this option if you have a rewriteable or recordable CD drive attached to your computer and you want to save your final movie to a recordable or rewriteable CD.

    E-mail

Specifies that you want to save your movie as an attachment to send in an e-mail message. Choose the option to share smaller movies with others by sending them in e-mail by using your default e-mail program.

    The Web

Specifies that you want to save your movie and then send it to a video hosting provider on the Web. A video hosting provider is a third-party provider on the Web that provides a Web server location and hosts the movies you save in Windows Movie Maker. Choose this option if you want to save your movie so family and friends can watch your movie on the Web.

    DV camera

Specifies that you want to send your movie to a tape in your DV camera. This option is available when you have a DV camera connected to an IEEE 1394 port. Choose this option if you want to save your movie to a tape so you and others can watch it on the DV camera or on a TV (when you connect the camera to a TV).

so unless you've got some "secret" method..i challenge you to prove your assertion that MM will burn a dvd of a movie made with it....because frankly i'd like to know how it could be done..

....now you can make a CD that MIGHT play on a DVD player...BUT not a DVD...however if you have the Windows Media Edition you apparently can auther DVD's but if you had that you'd have a video capture card huh..

  6. for about $129 you can buy a Lite-on stand-along DVD recorder...got mine at Costco.. you can find them at Sam's club also(usually)...you can connect you camcorder directly to it andit burns directly to dvd...to get a hard drive unit that allows a little more editing you need to spend a little more money...under $300 most places...

it's a common misconception the Movie Maker can record to DVD format...it cannot...best you'll get is "super VCD" or somthing called "Hi-mat"(worthless..compared to dvd format) and the only way you can get the tapes to the computer is thru a video capture card...which might be a little cheaper than a stand-alone...but do you have a dvd burner in you pc..??

    Lots of info here also

  7. in my "hood"(lol) you weren't cool unless you had a leather marble pouch...usually made as a cub scout project...mine was extra cool because my dad let me have a piece of deer-hide...cats eyes and steelies were the phat...hehe

lost a best friend for a whole summer because i won all his favorite marbles...we made up in time for the start of school...

..ah the memory of stiff blue denim on the first day of school..with pant legs rolled up to allow for those growing spurts...and the resulting chaffe marks on the inside thigh...:thumbsup:

  8. i can remember only one school day closed...and we didn't find out until after we had walked thru a g*d awful blizzard to get there and were told to turn around and walk home..my mom didn't believe me and called the school...but the lines were down...so she couldn't get thru...it wasn't until some of my friends came over to ask me out to play that she finally realized i was being straight with her...it was that rare of an occurance....

in Grand Rapids the plows were good and fast and always running...but that storm even stopped them from running...but we were back in school the next day...

  9. hahaha...you all crack me up...try 1949...with a 7 y/o and a 12 y/o...you better believe my girls get the "..you don't know how good you have it..." speech

blim...you might remeber when there were no snow days off for school in Michigan..haha.. no busing so everyone walked to school...lol :o

shoot... we were the last to get TV but the first to have Stereo...big Stromberg-Carlson in a cherry wood(real) cabinet...state of the art Audio in 1956...had an old shortwave radio that would pick up classical concerts from Europe...if you could finess the dial ever so carefully...LOL..and FM radio was an exotic...outlaw band that really was rare until sometime in the 70's...

wow you got me going on this one..the electronic/digital age has exploded so fast it's hard to remember how little of it there was growing up in the 50's and 60's...

    :blink::wacko::unsure:;)
