  1. i have not updated to sp2 yet..but have gone up to ZAP 5.1..with no real issues..but noticed last night on the za forums they have a 5.5 beta released..so it looks like they are still working on some of the kinks they have been having since 4.5..fyi

there as some reports of significant slowdown of download speeds after sp2 however..might be a good idea to check on the za forums for any "prog  ress" being made..

  2. ....Just remember, If you do have major problems and have to start over to diconnect your second HHD. (just in case). And to replace saved programs. (AdAware, etc.) With the lasted and greatest.

ok.that's two opinions on whether i should disconnect the second slave drive for a clean install..lol..most of the clean install instructions i've read say to disconnect all un-original stuff..printers etc..and i assume any added pci cards and attached second drives..my concern is reinstalling the second drive after re-installing xp..i would hope i would not have to format/partition this drive again and lose the data on it..given that sp2 certainly presents a clear danger of requiring a os re-install..i like to be as confident of my data back-up strategy as possible..

    thanx

to clarify..i have a 120gb original drive..with two partitions..C and D..i installed a second 160gb drive on it's own pci card and partitioned it into 4 seperate drives..this is just a slave for backup..no os installed

  3. Hi screi,

That's actually NOT alsocom list. It is my firend jdlech's list. He started it at the old CFH boards. I will ask him I can post it on my forums. He will probably OK it but I want to make sure before I do. Good idea to put it here for sure. Will definitly contact him. I know he has been really busy lately so I don't know exactly how long it could take to get an answer.

    B

my apologies to jdlech..should have known that..

  4. Hi wayne,

I I nstalled 5.1 and it seems to be ok so far. I did an error check with 5.1 which I could not do with 5.0. Dowmloaded sp2 on the other computer. The only problem I seem to be having is that windows can't see the status of ZAP or NAV. No big deal I know they are both running

    Thanks again B)

    Pat

good to hear that pat..5.1 should be recognized and managed by sp2 from what i've read..so maybe you need to treak sp2 a bit..i'm not touching sp2 yet..but i remember reading something about the issue..you might try the ZA forums..

i don't use NAV but there seems to be an issue with it and sp2..have you checked nav's site for sp2 patches..??

glad it's working out for you..

  5. If people would type their problem into Google I bet 75% of the time they would find the answer without having to post in the first place. Some kind of way to entice people to do a Goggle search first......hahahahahaha....

i agree..but..the problem with google is you sometimes have to be able to recognize which links you can trust..and choosing the one of 600 million that google presents you..can be a challenge..don't get me wrong..i love and use google..but i've learned who to trust on boards like this..and have learned way more by the members' here and on other well run boards than google..

  6. well..as slow as i type..i've never had a problem with i min edit restrictions..hehe

    Hahahah....I hear ya screi...

I'm the same......even when my daughter IM's me...and asks a question...when I look up to the monitor after typeing a reply. She's already asked 2 or 3 more questions or I get a lot of these all across the screen....

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!

ya.. i tried one of those online chat support things for my printer..and the support person "politely" asked to to call the 800 number..

  7. Hi wayne,

You said you had zap version5.1. Did not know they updated version 5.0. Are you having any problems with the updated zap.I had version 5.0 but it would not let me do an error check so I rolled back to version 4.5. please let me know if you are having problems with 5.1

    Thanks,

    Pat

yes.. 5.0 was a disaster..and i was silly enough to buy pro ver.5.0.043 before i checked the forums..i ended up uninstalling it and "reverting" back to 4.5..like most folks..i watched the ZA forums closely for the last few weeks..and because of the impending sp2 issues with 4.5..i took a shot at the 5.1..so far it's working for my set-up..

fyi..i did the update from 4.5..downloaded the 5.1..choose "clean install" and had no issues/problems with the install..i did turn off my McAfee and any other scanners..

    hope this helps..

    wayne :)

  8. Another option, one I use. I put in a second 10G HHD. And I have 10 folders in it. (you can make as many as you want). This is where I keep my backup of everything. (reg files, e-mail addys, favorites, etc.). Also, all my downloaded programs. (AdAware, Spybot, Etc.) And one folder for drivers. It leaves me more then enough space to do a ghost Image of my system to. If you ever have major problems, or just want to do a reformat and start fresh. You have everything right there. No searching through disk or online searches for those programs you liked. (but can't seem to find anymore).

Cut my time of a compleat reinstall back to what I like in half.

Just remember, If you do have major problems and have to start over to diconnect your second HHD. (just in case). And to replace saved programs. (AdAware, etc.) With the lasted and greatest.

  9. hi folks..this post brings up an issue i've been wondering about for a while..so without trying to hijack this post let me ask this..

i installed a 160gb maxtor hard drive as a slave some time ago..formatted and partitioned it into 4 seperate drives..use it strictly as a backup drive for my docs..downloads..video's..even store my e-mails there..it's on it's own pci card..now i still burn the data files to cd about once a month so i have "hard" backups..but i'm wondering that if i have a major disaster and need to clean install my xp home on the c drive(which is on the original master) do i need to disconect the slave and it's pci card.. before the clean install..? if so do i just re-install it(the slave drive) after the fresh install..and are there any issues i should be aware of concerning accessing the data on this slave drive..?? after the clean install..

hope i've got my question across with all that..

    thanx

  10. where and when i grew up..asking someone who they were voting for..was akin to asking how much money was in their wallet..both taboo and serious breaches of social etiguette..and given the current polarized political environment..such topics are likely to rapidly become shouting matches..and degrade into silly soliloguies..

that said..i will add this quote..which i find appropiate:

"Those who cast their vote decide nothing; Those who count the votes decide everything."

  11. lol..not all that much in a hurry..but up until yesterday sp2 did not show up when i manually checked for updates..i also just updated zap and i'm new to software firewalls so i'm a bit confused as to it's setup..mucking thru it all..

i've printed the chief's and pete c's recomendations for "safe" sp2 install..so when i'm ready..

    thanx for the reply

    wayne :D

    added:

ya i ordered the cd yesterday..but i do have dsl..and when i checked manually it showed about 75mb..my strategy is to let auto update download..and pick my own time to install..

  12. i'm on xp home..i have set auto updates to download /ask to install..when i manually check windows updates..sp2 is listed and wants to install..but i want to prepare my machine according to the good advise discussed here and at g4..so far auto update has not downloaded sp2..i'm wondering if i need to configue my firewall software(ZAp 5.1..just recently upgradeed) to allow windows update access..or if i just need to wait my turn in the auto update line..??

    thanx
