Edit...I don't think I can change the title...but I should have said Locks down files... and Ransomware...ooooops!!! Sorry for the misspelling folks. I found this originally in an AP story in the business section of our Oregonian newspaper today, but their online version doesn't do AP based news stories. The next problem to come against computer users. Ransomware!!! Pay up to get your files unlocked after a trojan program encrypts them. Trojan file kidnappers Files taken hostage by trojan Antivirus companies are rushing to get updates out to protect people from the latest scumware called ra

Hi folks, Maybe Chappy and Beluga need to start a special car section for all of us? Oh before I forget it, I went back and edited some mistakes in car part of my post yesterday. It should have said Water pump not fuel pump. I'm hoping everyone knew that's what I meant to say when I said antifreeze leak. Actually hubby says mechanic said it was the gasket for water pump going bad. Yes I am more concerned about that then the oil leak. But softie me, more worried about an animal getting into the antifreeze that leaks on the pavement where we park, then of the pump failing completely. Antifreeze

So will Sara also be able to get out of that stranglehold contract? I read somewhere that both she and Kevin's G4 contracts were for 5 years...yikes!!! And those contracts usually contain a non-compete clause too, so the troubles may be ongoing for both. I'm curious about the rest of the story of the tech soap opera of the SS lovebirds, are Kevin and Sara still together? If so, and if Kevin gets a dream job somewhere else, will Sara be able to break her G4 contract to follow her heart??? I hope things work out for the best, for both of them, and for all the other TTVers too!!! God bless ever

Hog....Boss Hogg Mac, I find your thought processes very interesting, and thanks for explaining how you got from first point to last. (Usually I can't outline mine!) My hubby thinks I am the only one who comes up with convuluted answers due to my convuluted thinking. Now I can tell him I'm not only one who can go from point A to Z, via a galaxy of far reaches in between!!! HaHa! God bless everyone.

That was sure an amazing save by that horse to regain its footing, let alone to go on to win the race. Wow!!! I saw it on the news several times and am still in awe of what looks like a miracle. And the story behind that horse is what makes it even a greater story. I'm glad it won, and hope it is ok with no lasting damage to ligaments etc. Don't they call that type of come-back strength, a "horse with heart"? God bless everyone.

Hi everyone, I sure would like a mug of hot coffee, thanks. Nice to have some decent weather, and it is to continue for next week or two. Yeaaaaa!! Sure rained hard yesterday afternoon though, and Portland weather radar still doing it's off again, on again tricks. Probably will be ok now the good weather is back and no one needs to know what is going on storm-wise, but sure would have been handy to check out what was hitting us yesterday afternoon. Hubby mowed and edged, and I pruned lower sucker growth off the professionally (?) badly pruned (a year ago) flowering plums at the neighbors. I ha

I think some caution on plastic being reheated is a good idea. Though I hadn't heard about it being bad to freeze stuff in it, only that unless stuff was properly wrapped that freezer burn would result. Some types of plastics are said to be ok to microwave with, others not, and others never fully tested as far as I know, or things were tested with funding by companies that beneft, so follow the money trail on any study if possible. I personally use Corning Ware in microwave, but also use a plastic microwave plate cover. Shrug...Sigh!!! This dioxin problem is even in paper products. I rememb

Interesting thread and still going. Wow, so many rants and the trouble is the car makers probably aren't reading this. Speaking of things on cars that bug people, is anyone else tired of beep beep setting of car alarms, or the actual car alarms themselves? No one even goes to look anymore to see what is really happening, due to so many false alarms. The only rant I'm doing this weekend is about the recent thunderstorms, rain, hail, etcccc!!!! And it is raining again hours earlier than predicted. Not just showers, it is a steady downpour. But at least no thunderstorms. OK! Ok! End of thunderst

Liz mentioned the MT St Helens 25th anniversary of blowing it's top, so thought I'd give you some websites for articles and videos of news coverage this week. Hi everyone, Am trying to type this with a purring cat on my lap checking to see if she can catch my fingers on keyboard. So far I am winning. She thinks it is about time I'm back on the computer. ME TOO!!! We had lots of nasty thunderstorms most of this week, so had the computer unplugged for last 3 days, plus Monday too I think. So many storms I've lost track. Portland radar went out too, so weather people had to do forecasts the hard way, looking out windows!!! HaHa! If you didn't like what it was doing just wait for a few minutes while it did a 180, but the wind often did the same turn. Th

Ah Liz is so much more diplomatic than I am!!! Also she is full of good ideas. Yes I would be concerned in a subcontractor's shoes too, though there should be a protecting contract, and supposedly whistle blowers have legal protections too....yeah right. I think first you make sure which version it is, then follow the diplomatic ideas Liz gave you. Also there are companies (and various government agencies) that sneakily do tests of character on employees and subs to see what they do, how they react, in certain situations. So who knows if this was a test of your co worker, and of you? So worki

If it was the free only for private use version, then talk to the IT person, or to Human Resources as this may be something that would get the company sued. In fact I think HR is the right direction to take this issue. If the response there is not forthright to correct it (go with your gut feeling here!), then contact Adaware people. There may be fall out with your professional contact with this Major Corporation though, so be prepared for that. It seems to me if you have to ask what is the right thing to do, that you really do know what is right, and now the only question is will you be able

I am so glad to see you Sultan!!! He's back, He's back!!! Yeaaaa!!! Back on the boards where you belong!!! Can't let the buzzards drive you off of a board that you were so great a contributor on. Can't let the buzzards win!!! You have to reclaim your territory Sir to show them you are a better person than they will ever be, especially considering their continued infantile behaviour limiting their maturity. Did I mention that I missed you my friend? Well I sure did miss you!!! And as the others have said, I also have learned alot from you too...and have the links to prove it. God bles

U.S. News had an interesting article a couple of weeks ago on the hybrid fad. U.S. News "Invasion of the Green Machines" Some interesting things were brought up in the article. Prius, because of it's premium price, would take normal drivers 7 years or more of ownership to break even before beginning to recoup their investment. And the 42% more parts make that an expensive gamble that the car wont need expensive repairs before then. And the gas mileage figures are only a guess at best. It depends alot on where you drive, city stop and go driving is more efficient then out on the highway. As for

Wow! I'd like to see them again too. I hope you get lucky. Do you see them very often where you live Liz? I saw them once when I was a kid growing up in the Puget Sound (Seattle/Tacoma) area of Washington. Various shades of reds and greens. At first reds like a far off fire but no smoke. Then the greens. And all the colors undulating like the colors were dancing to music. Gorgeous. God bless everyone.

Hello everyone, I moved out of the comfy chair to let JSKY have it. Hauling and stacking wood makes a person tireder than weeding and rose trimming. So he can have the comfy chair, I like the rocking chair the best anyhow, thanks. Looks like Mac needs the cocoon chair to make him feel better, after the world beat him up the past few weeks. I'm sorry things didn't work out for you Mac, but something will come along for you. Just keep on looking for the right place that will make you happy. And the right girl will show up someday too, just keep on being yourself. We don't usually have a mild en

Hi everyone, How about a refill of coffee please? I am to pooped to get it myself. Helped hubby a bit today with some weeding, and also trimmed all the rotted blooms from my climbing roses, while he mowed our place. At least he got it done, thereby winning over the rain showers early this morning and ones coming tonight, and it is supposed to rain all next week too. The yellow climber took the hardest hit from the heavy rains and wind the other day, as it was just loaded with blooms. Tied up another smaller climber, Joseph's Coat (each blossom changes color as it goes from bud to full bloom he

Thanks for posting back. I'm glad it's working out ok for you. Would love to get rid of mine too, unless it is needed for computer and wont recover intact, but who can tell the bad from the good of it? Did you get the latest Spybot Update? And do the scan afterwards? I'm up from 54 to 56 now of the Backweb stuff. But now at least it gives a dropdown menu of all of them (not that it makes any sense to me as a nongeek!!!) As for it being a full screen program when you update/scan for stuff, just the way it is I guess. Have you immunized from future bad guys? Click on the odd looking red pizza

Thanks Liz for the hug, I really needed it. Everyone, I got up early this morning to edit my May 10th, 8:15pm post in this thread to give proper respect to Pete. I am sorry for sounding disrespectful in first version. I do not want to hurt or disrespect anyone, here, or anywhere else!!! Marty you are correct, without Pete, Chappy, mlegg (sp?) (Mike) and the other mods, those boards would not be worth going to. I hope all the strife is now finished, and we can return to safely enjoying the boards here, and at G4, and elsewhere. I have done the best I can to take responsibility for my part of t

Bless You Liz, I have really been feeling awful about this whole mess, and thought I had solved it, then after supper found PMs saying it needed to be changed yet again. Yikes!!! Needless to say, I am pretty upset over the entire problem!!! I guess I will head to bed, and maybe this whole thing wont look so miserable to me tomorrow. I am still nearly in tears, stressed out with headache and neckache from tension and eye strain. So bless you for your kind words, they have made my day. G'night my friend. God bless everyone.

Per Request: I have re-edited the G4 post. God bless everyone. thesidekickcat Miniboss Posts: 1096 Joined: May 2004 Wednesday May 04, 2005 6:46 PM I hope Pete leaves this up on Tech Support for the full weekend, or rotates it back here towards the end of the month closer to the actIual anniversary. What a chaotic scary time it was for many of us when we moved over here and had to learn what seemed like such a strange huge (what was the membership number back then, around 32,000, I think? Now it is over 200,000. Wow!) board system, and with so many over here that we didn't know and
