  1. Yes blim ... this is the ONLY site I am having trouble with ... how could it be the site when everyone else can reach it ... you can reach the site alright ... correct? ... that's the part I don't understand ... and when I shut down the power to the computer at night it kills the power to the modem as well ... so isn't that rebooting it everytime I turn the power back on?

Ive found a couple site over the years that I couldn't get to. I used to know how to trace the route to XYZ website. (hopefully someone else will wonder in that can tell you how) What I found was the signal just got randomly dropped at a hub. I used to not be able to connect at all to a certain web host. Drove me crazy. See if you can find out who hosts the site, can you get to any other hosted sites of there's?

  2. It's no joke ... why do you think that? I have a cable modem ... I'm connected all the time ... I'm using the local phone company as an ISP ... any idea what's going on?

    Really?

Anyway... my first thought was your ISP blocked it. For example, if it were a college network. However, I don't think a commercial ISP would. The internet isn't perfect. There may be a router or hub somewhere that isn't working properly. Do you have a freind in the same area (prefferably same ISP)? See if they can access the site.

    Will IE load the site?

    Reset cable modem?

    Have software router?

  3. If I were a corn farmer Id be doin the same thing. Government is paying em big bucks to do so. American farmers are selling their bulk corn for less than it costs Mexico to produce theirs

  4. Seriously though I wanna know why needing exhaust repair makes you say "rice burners" amuse you.

The size of that "can", and in the end, the sound will amuse me. :D

Really though. What's up with 4-5in diameter tail pipes? It seems to be the theme but I just don't get it.

It's better though than what I saw today. I was stuck behind a Chevy Crappilier with DUAL EXHUAST! Dual exhaust on an inline engine? Hehe... young people make me look bad

Goodluck with the exhuast work, upload us some tones!

  5. All of the Radio Shacks around here just want to sell cell phones. I'm lucky, I'm close to a electronic surplus store. Kind of like a salvage yard for electronics. You never know what you'll find there

    Mark

Radio Shack has really gone down hill. I guess they'd have to to stay in busniess, but it's irritating. Can't even trust radio shack branded items anymore, as they're always just re-branded made in china crap.

  6. I transfered a domain from a webhost to Godaddy yesturday. Process went fine. However, it's been 24 hours and the domain is still pointing to the old site. Oddly, when I got up this morning and checked it, it was pointing to the new webhost. Went to church and came home, and now it's back to pointing to the old webhost... How long should it take for the DNS to update to the right info?

  7. Pretty much ANY business better look at the web as an opportunity, or risk extinction.

They wouldn't hesitate to stock new product, or purchase attractive displays, or advertise in various media, so there's no good reason to avoid the web, it's just another opportunity to sell.

Yup. Unfournately, too many companies these days simply gripe about the internet than use it :(

  8. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1204574034...eature_articles

Here's an article in the WSJ about a dive shop in Dallas Texas. Late last year they started their own internet forum. The forum has since boomed with popularity, and has helped increase the company's sales. I for one would never have ordered anything from them if it had not been for their internet forum. It has obviously been a great tool in helping them increase their customer base.

The Dive industry (like others) is having problems getting customers into the stores and off the internet. Dive shops are closing left and right. The shop featured in this article could have very well faced the same fate, however they saw the internet as a tool and not a threat. This is a great business model for all companies feeling the threat of internet sales.

Jeff, I had planned to post this in your other website, but for the life of me I can't remember what the link is

  9. I dont mean to sound like an @$$hole, but your first post on someone elses forum shouldn't be spam ;)

Not on that, the internet is heavily saturated with "computer help" communities. What will yours offer that others (such as the BEST one of the internet, Besttechie) don't? Im not trying to shoot it down, but it's something to think about when creating a website. Goodluck!

  10. The sheet of ice covering my van this morning was over a 1/4" thick. Side roads were murdur and the main roads weren't much better

    Mark

    Were the roads this bad?

Wow, that hurt just watching it. Has to be one horrible helpless feeling.

  11. Keep your default margins zero.

What exactly do you mean. By default, don't margins get assigned to everything?

Yes. If no margin is specified it's up to the browser to decide. I believe most browsers assume no margin = 10pixels.

Always make your default margins 0 ( * {margin: 0; padding: 0;} ) in all your style sheets. Makes it uniform across all browsers.

    EDIT:

All I ment by "keep your default margins zero" was make sure you keep * {margin: 0; padding: 0;} in your style sheet.

  12. Or I can stick a stamp on an envelope and it'll get there. For now, at least, that's the better choice for me.

Id say the federal mail service is a bigger "chain of problems" ;)

Also, the "Forever Stamp" will actually cost MORE to the consumer if purchased as an "investment" for later use. Here's why:

While the USPS may not have to "Apply" to raise rates, they cannot raise it more than inflation.
