  2. gee JS you would be able to fly to the moon on that much ram tho that looks like the way of the future i have a disk sent to me from sun micro and to able to run it you need 750megs tho the install disk is free you have to pay for the extra ram 750megs dosent sound much to you rich users or tech gurus here in nz all compt come with 512megs unless speified as ive only got 512megs i havent been able to try the disk yet so this big ram thing is becomming the thing of the future marty

    Marty, The best luck I had was with Fedora distros. They pretty much do the partitioning for you during the installation. Are you trying to do a dual boot with Windows? Or is it on a seperate comuter? I also used Partition Magic a few times to set up the partitions before I installed Linux. But that's because I have a dual boot with Windows XP. Stick with it. The modern distros are pretty user friendly. Have you been to this site? or this? Here's another. Joe up until ow ive tried to install on a seperate hdd but maybe ile need to dual boot with windows so i can use some thing like partition

    well ive progressed a little to install slackware you need to install the hardware drivers to make the install and i can do that but from there on ime a little lost but remember ime going to need your advice marty slackware is much similair to dos configuration and i have installed win 3.1 through dos with the help of bearskin but linux is another thing altogether marty

    ok i learned to install pmcdia drivers and another hardware driver but i cannot find the option to partition ive looked at all the links every one sent in th ppoblem is to patition with in the slackware appli it self like hitest im starting to hate the thing but if i want to install i need to learn how to partition the hdd which is all that is holding me back sorry if ime posting negitive but ime a lot further than i was by the way ime posting this from dam little linix marty

    i find one of the problems is the partitioning i can get to the pckgtool then it asks to partition the hdd my Q HOW and where the cfdisk and the fdsik are no help until you partitiong the hdd i agree even windows allows partitions but the difference is in windows you can delete the partition and use the entire disk tonight i got further than at any time i had it installed then when i tried to reboot the sys said it had killed the install so ile try again marty

    thanks guys comming from posters like your selves im assured ime getting the best advice yes i like ubuntu but as an experimenter i woulso like to try slackware as i got the disks for nothing and from a friend who swears by it when i feel game enough i will try and install slackware marty

    hi ide sure love to try slackware at first i thought it was similiar to dos but i have to forget about the windows thing and concentrate on the linux can some one tell me why linux is obsessed with partitioning my theory is so they can control the mbr when you dual boot with windows if i could just understand how to use linux i wouldnt use windows at all as it is now i use ubuntu 60percent of the time but ime off to read your links and see if i can get any further marty

    thanks for the link ime getting better at using the different applis tho i have a long way to go to be frank i started trying to install slackware and i was getting so frustrated i gave up then this DSL arrived so to relieve the frustrations i had a go and it isnt to bad tho my first aim is to install slackware but it is so complicated but developer says in the liner noters that it is quite easy bull----t it isnt for the faint hearted i was in a slackware forum and when i mentioned how difficult it was to find the option to partition the hdd my did those b---s rubbish me so as time g

    hitest ok i had this cd dam small linux sent to me by a friend and ive just tried to have a loook at it and damed if i got on line first go ime not suire if i can it again once i go off line but it is an interesting idea my Q can it be installed to the hdd or is it solely for use of the cd ime doing betere with dsl than with slackware marty
