Would it be ok to install one like this with this desktop computer PSU? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814161184 I may do a bit of gaming from time to time, so I would like to pick a good video card, I'm just concerned about the PSU being able to handle a good card -

(update) Possible Video Card Upgrade?
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
mmm.. in the section of Video & Graphics there is the following information: Intel 845GV Integrated Graphics 64MB max. Dynamically Shared Graphics Memory Does that mean that 64MB is the only amount possible related to graphics in this computer?, and since it doesn't have an AGP slot that I won't be able to upgrade the graphics card unless I upgrade the mobo as well? -

(update) Possible Video Card Upgrade?
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
It's a desktop PC Sony Vaio, we got it around 4 & 1/2 years ago, I'm not sure how to check the model of the motherboard since I don't have the manuals whit me, that's why I was asking if there was any sort of freeware that could tell me the specs of the computer. -
(update) Possible Video Card Upgrade?
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
It's strange I also didn't find a notoriusly big video card inside (like you usually see in magazines and internet articles about upgrading) instead the port for the monitor was a small connection that was apparently built right in the motherboard. I'm not sure if the computer could be considered old or not it has a 2.50 GHz processor. Is there any freeware program that I can donwload in order to check the hardware specs for this desktop computer? something that tells me perhaps what brand and what type of hardware is inside, Berlac Advisor perhaps? -
(update) Possible Video Card Upgrade?

I opened the case and checked, but I'm afraid that this desktop computer doesn't have an AGP slot. Does this mean I can't upgrade? Edit: I could try purchasing another video card (that is if it's possible to upgrade without spending the equivalent for a new PC) -

I didn't know about PC Tools Firewall Plus 3.0, would you say is better than Comodo firewall to run in XP? -
(solved) Sudden Keyboard Problem
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Thanks Terrorist, that did the trick! -
Something happened with the Thinkpad R40, If I press any key (U, I, O, P, J, K, L) that also has a number on it I get only the number instead of the letter. Does anyone know how to fix this? Help!!! Edit: Not sure if this matters at all, but I have installed Ubuntu in another partition in this laptop as well, I have tried booting into Ubuntu and this problem doesn't present at all when I use Ubuntu, also it's been at least 3 weeks since I've installed Ubuntu on it and the keyboard was working perfectly fine every time I booted into either Windows XP or Ubuntu.

(update) Possible Video Card Upgrade?
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I believe it's an AGP video card, I searched for an image of it: http://www.xpcgear.com/pcr98esc3.html -
I got my hands on a ATI Radeon 9800 SE DDR 128MB Video Card, and although it's not top notch in comparison to most current video cards in the market nowdays I want to try and see if it's possible to upgrade an old PC with it. However, I'd like to know if it's actually possible for this mobo to configure the card, and also if the power supply will be able to handle it, since I've heard that many times when you try to upgrade the vid card you end up upgrading the PSU as well, in either case, how can I go about this to see if the desktop computer will be able to accept/handle this vid card at all

Choosing Between Free Utilities?
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I've heard AVG does a pretty good job detecting threats, shows you the message virus detected, but sometimes it doesn't give you an option to remove it, is that true? -
Which one do you think it's the best? ZoneAlarm free version or Comodo Firewall? What about between Avast and AVG?

Invalid Xp Product Id Code....
intocomputing2 replied to The Dragon Slayer's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I tried that too, but it still takes it as invalid, Terrorist can you reply in the thread "optimizing a system without doing a fresh install?" as I said before I don't mean to hijack someone else's thread, thanks in advance for your reply Terrorist 75 -
Invalid Xp Product Id Code....
intocomputing2 replied to The Dragon Slayer's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
don't mean to hijack the thread but something similar is happening with a friend's computer. I install her copy of XP and then enter the product key of the CD (though obtained from berlac advisor in this case since she lost the original envelope) but it still takes it as invalid, not sure if there's something wrong with these XP installation disks. -
I have an update on this issue, in the last week my friend bought a new 120 GB hard drive for this laptop, just today we got some spare time from schoolwork so I helped her and installed the hard drive, since this hard drive is much bigger we thought about installing her copy of Windows XP using the CD and her key license recovered thanks to berlac advisor, as suggested on this thread, we thought about formatting the old drive once this new one is installed, registered and running, but to my surprise when I was trying to install WinXP in her new 120 GB hard drive and use the license that Berla

Nothing On Display
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
No and Yes, what I did was open it up, and take out the RAM memory from the A31, after checking how much there was I put it right back in, I didn't switch it with the memory on the R40 at all, and there hasn't been any liquid spilled onto the A31. -
Today I ran into a problem with the Thinkpad A31, the screen is completely black and nothing shows on it, neither the IBM logo nor the boot screen for the bios, when I turn on the laptop it remains silent, and doesn't give any type of sounds, although one of the times I tried it gave me 4 beeps then stopped then gave me other 4 beeps and that was it, nothing else happened and the screen remained black, does anyone know what kind of problem could this be? or if it's possible to fix it?
