Whenever I open Windows Explorer and click on a directory, I always get these thumbnails and icons. Is there a setting I can change so that I always get 'detail' view instead? I hate having to change it every time. I am running Windows XP Pro. Thanks........jr

New Notherboard Has No Video Output?
jimras replied to slippybippy's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
So how was the monitor hooked up on the old board? You probably had a video card of some sort.... Didn't you put that onto the new motherboard? most faster computers today don't rely on 'onboard' video -

A Jewish husband and wife were having dinner at a very fine restaurant when this absolutely stunning young woman comes over to their table, gives the husband a big open-mouthed kiss, then whispers in his ear that she'll see him later, winks, and walks away. The wife glares at her husband and says, "Who was that?" "Oh," the husband replies casually, "she's my mistress." "That's the last straw," says the wife. "I've had enough! I want a divorce!" "Well, I can understand that," replies her husband, "but remember this: if we get a divorce it will mean no more shopping trips to Paris, no more winte

One says "Did you hear the news - Mike is dead!" "Wooo, what the hell happened to him?" "Well he was on his way over to my house the other day and when he arrived outside the house he didn't brake properly and boom - He hit the pavement and the car flips up and he crashed through the sunroof - Went flying through the air and smashed through my upstairs bedroom window." "What a horrible way to die!" "No no, he survived that, that didn't kill him at all. So, he's landed in my upstairs bedroom and he's all covered in broken glass on the floor. Then, he spots the big old antique wardrobe we have i

I don't know what you'd be soldering either but I know that for electronics stuff (circuit boards) you have to use a lower wattage soldering iron so you don't overheat the components. Soldering is just a skill and takes a little practice to get good at it.

One evening an old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a five gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end of the pond. One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!". The old man frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond na

Two guys, one old and one young, are pushing their carts around Home Depot when they collide. The old guy says to the young guy, "Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." The young guy says, "That's OK. It's a coincidence. I'm looking for my wife, too. I can't find her and I'm getting a little desperate." The old guy says, "Well, maybe we can help each other. What does your wife look like? The young guy says, "Well, she is 27 yrs old, tall, with red hair, blue eyes, long legs, big boobs, and she's wearing tight w

The best two way to make a turkey breast (or a whole turkey, for that matter) that I know of are 1. Slow roasted on the grill and put some raw bacon on top of it so as it cooks, it will baste the meat. Check the bacon every so often and replace when it gets crisp. 2. The other way is to deep fry it. Yum!!!!!

AND YOU THINK YOU HAD A BAD DAY! author unknown I am writing in response to your request for additional information. In block number three of the accident reporting form, I put "poor planning" as the cause of my accident. You said in your letter that I should explain more and I trust that the following details are sufficient: I am a bricklayer by trade. On the day of the accident, I was working alone on the roof of a new six-story building. When I completed my work, I discovered that I had about 500 pounds of bricks left over. Rather than carry the bricks down by hand I decided to lower them

A British company is developing computer chips that store music in women's breast implants. This is a major breakthrough. Women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts without listening to them.

Tractor Supply announced that they will soon be offering customers a new discount item: The world's largest retail chain of redneck equipment is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of California, to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-2.75 range. Wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Tractor S. brand into their shopping carts, but "there is a market for cheap wine", said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing. She said: "But the right name is important." Customer surveys were conducted to determine the most attractive name for the Tractor Drainage bran

Well, here's where I'm at. I FINALLY got SP2 to finish installing and restart without too much trouble, When it did the restart after finishing the install, it tried to boot from the CD which was still in the drive. I should have pulled it out but I didn't think of it at the time. The computer kind of started to boot but stopped on the Windows XP black screen and just sat there so I finally hit the power switch to turn it off and then restarted it. I removed the CD and let it boot up. The first thing I did next was get my AV running again. I use Avast. I have had it running and it went t

Well, here's the latest in my quest. I checked and there was an updated BIOS available, which I got. The tech guy said that the old BIOS didn't allow SP2 to work right ..something to do with ACPI, whatever that is.... That installed fine. I also found that there were newer drivers for my video board so I went to nVidea's site and got those and installed those. Now I'm ready to try it again and boy, if it doesn't go this time, then I QUIT!! I'll update later............ jr

I don't use msconfig, I use Mike Lin's program and like it a lot. I did dissable the Music Match loader. The program just takes a bit longer to load now but not a big deal. I also updated the Mail washer, too. That must have helped. I really cleaned out MY startups a while ago and now I've done it to the wife's comp too! After getting the Avast program up and running and then doing a Spybot S&D, AdAware, and full system Virus Scan, I then also installed Spyware Blaster and updated the hosts file, too. In this process, I had to do a few more restarts and now everything is working the way

I'm working on my wife's computer this morning. It's a year old and now McAffee want's money for their AV program and I can't see paying for something if I can get it free. I uninstalled McAffee and put on Avast. I noticed that when shutting down for the restarts needed during the uninatall and Avast install, there is a window saying that the comp is waiting for a program to finish closing. The heading on the title bar is "ShellIconHiddenWindow" and after a few seconds, you get this "end task and lose data" box and I click that and everything closes and then it restarts just fine. I figur
