  1. Just in case anyone hasn't seen this on the news, George W Bush announced that his father the Senior President Bush and former President Bill Clinton will be heading up efforts for donations and aid to the Tsunami victims. There are bound to be some fake organizations out there, so I thought I would post this and the website if anyone can help and also know that it is legitimate and your money will get there...

  3. Does anyone have an experience with remote assistance?? If someone invites you, can you take over their desktop, or just see it....Just asking cause my sis-in law is in WV and I'm in NY...She had no antivirus/spyware etc protection...(getting popups and all kind of junk) It's hard e-mailing her a little at a time especially when you can't see what is going on....just wondering.. If I could control her computer, she could just watch what I do and then she would be set with scanners etc...

PS..We both Have XP..she has home and I have pro....both dell desktops also...

  4. Haven't got the site to load in 3 days....but like most say...oh well..I too go once in a while to see what the people I met and helped me there are up to....otherwise..this site is always open when I'm online......all great people!!

    :D

  5. Have you tried disabling security on the wireless setup. Maybe you have an encryption problem.

Yeah, I tried that..no luck...What I did find is that I have an older version of the program...I have to wait to get to work and dowload the new version...Maybe the old one doesn't support wireless..or has options for a wireless network...off all week...so I'll have to wait..As long as my desktop PC can connect to work....no biggie until then...thanks again for all your help!!

    :D

  6. When you say "cable connection to your desktop" do mean a wired LAN (Ethernet) connection or a broadband (cable/DSL) modem?

Assuming you mean wired, I assume your internet connection is dial-up (you mentioned  AT&T dialer - is this an external modem?).

If you can give some more details on just how things are connected it would help.

    For example, my connections are:

    Wall -> Cable Modem -> Wireless Router -> (wired)Desktop +  (wifi)Laptops.

Sorry for the confusion.....my wireless works great....for normal internet use. Desktop is connected to a cable modem.....all is wonderful except to get into the websites and and applications that I use for work on my laptop (the wireless one), If I want to get into my company's applications from home, I have to use the AT&T dialer.(this dials up thru my cable modem not to be confused with a dialup to the internet) This allows me thru the company firewall so I can use applications that I use at work to work at home..It's just added security so anyone who does not work their can't get in..My problem is that when I went to wireless...the desktop can still dial in to work, but the wireless laptop can't.....IT keeps timing out with a error 101 Missing default gateway mac address...

Sorry for all the trouble..Just thought someone might be wireless at home and have to dial into work and may have experienced this problem..Thanks everyone for responding!!

  7. Got a linksys 802.11g for x-mas( yeah!!) Hooked it up, did all the setup stuff and got an excellent connection to my laptop...secure connection etc...Very happy!! almost...I have a Dell as my desktop and an IBM R40 as the PC I am using wirelessly. Don't know if anyone has any experience with this, but I figured I would ask. I have to use the At&T dialer to connect to my work stuff as it is behind a firewall. It works thru my cable connection to my desktop, but can't get it to work with the wireless PC. If I hook up my laptop to the wired connection, it works..Been thru all the network settings on both....Called Linksys twice...Called my work help desk.....no help...This is one of the main reasons I got it for when I work from home...and it's cool...All internet connections work on the wireless except for connecting to work...It times out and I get a 101 error saying mac address not found..Both PC's have xp pro by the way...Any suggestions would be of great help!!!

PS..Sorry if this should have been posted in the hardware section...but I thought it was more of a windows setup problem...the hardware works fine...

  8. Hahahaha....Ok here's is one you don't see around much but from the command line defrag c: -b will defrag the prefetch file and it really does make a difference on boot up if the file is really fragmented......

Just wanted to bring this tip back to the top to remind everyone. I think IL _Wiccan gets the tip of the year award!!!!!! :D

  9. No problems here from day one on home PC.....The company I work for had some problems with applications not working, so at work on my laptop I have a company version of SP2...All they did was disable the security center. They don't want us doing auto updates here....Basically SP2 just seems like rollup of SP1 patches with a security center added in....(I'm sure they changed tons in the backround ) but I would not be afraid...

  10. Great Idea!!!! I have 4...but don't want to be the 1st to be controversial..so here's 3.

    1. LOVE FOOTBALL!! College and Pro...On Sunday's during the NFL season, I am in a vegetative state. No shower, no shaving (gotta brush the teeth tho) Put on my Old Navy sweat Pants (the slippery cumfy ones) and my Penn St. T-shirt and it's my favorite chair and football all day....(I do do laundry, clean etc...but only during time outs...commercials etc)

    2. Have anxiety/panic disorder..took over 5 years to find a doctor who believed it was an actual problem and finally got help. It is still embarrasing beacuse people who haven't experienced it have a hard time believing that a grown man can lose control of mind and body over this.

    3. Afraid of confrontation. Not physically, but verbally...kind of an intimidation thing..
