  1. Your selection look's like a really nice MB, I like a couple of front USB's (for convenience) . The price is super. How high can the CPU be upgraded to? Your wife's going to lose her bet ,you'll be up and running in 24hr's. Go for it , Jimmy
  2. Thank's for the nice post, I've put the URL in fav's to print later as I've run into some prob's on my Lan. JD
  3. Thank's guy's, that sure makes it a lot easier to do. jimmy
  4. I've loaded XP-PRO on a machine & installed SP1, Can I install SP2 ( MS disk ) without downloading 50 updates first ??? I don't have it networked and the download's would take a lifetime ! Thank's for any reply's, jimmy

  6. I don't want to mess you up but if it was me. I'd take the HDD out of the"ME" machine and put it in another comp. and Reformat (NTFS) it. Put it back in the "ME" comp. and load the New OS. Have you tried that ?? I fought ( tooth & nail ) with win. "ME", for a year. the MFG. would to nothing so , inorder not to VOID my three warrantee , I added a second HDD, put XP PRO on it it automatically set up a dual boot sys. I'm using it yet today , it run's 24/7 and no prob. I just dont go to the ME drive. Hell of a way to have to do it, but at the time I didn't know what else to do. jimmy P.
  7. OH! yes , I've gotten my money's worth. I was on dial-up for a long time and it really limited what you have acess to. In fact I still keep a dial-up acc. for emerg. backup and other thing's. We've set-up a home LAN and that let all of us have a lot of freedom. Without Broadband that would be a mess. My machine is Host so it's on 24/7. That part limit's the experiminting I can do, so I have another unit for playing. Thank's for your interest. jimmy P.S. When DSL get's here (late Dec.), i'm going to one of my neighbor's and play a little on thier hook-up .
  8. pro1driver, thank's for your input. Don't know what I'll do yet. May just upgrade what I have now ??????? jimmy

  11. I'm on Direcway Sattelite and just found out that DSL (via Bell South) will be available in Dec/Jan. I have a pretty big investment in my equip but the monthly chg. is 59.00. Bell DSL would be half that and the install equip is free after rebate. I've had a lot of prob. with Direcway, but none the past few month's. What do you'll think ?????? P.s. I'm about a 1/4 mi. off the hwy. , would the phone line attenuate the signal to much ? jimmy
  12. Can a std. desktop 3.5" HDD, be connected to a LapTop USB , to be used as additional storage & for back-ups ? It would save me having to buy another HDD ! Thank's in advance jimmy Found what I needed, thank's anyway. jimmy
  13. Yes & so does the one client . JD
  14. Well I have to make room for a house guest, the 1st. of the yr. I'm thinking about going on E-Bay , I have 3 Desktop's, 3 LapTop's and a bunch of other computer related stuff that has to go. I've never tryed to sell on E-Bay and the more I read about it the more intimidating it seems. I've bought there and have a good rating so maybe it will go ok. I'm thinking about checking the "Seller Assistant" program and see if that's a possibility ? If anyone has experience Or interest in this topic, E-Mail me with your input's. I say E-Mail, so as not to clog-up the Forum. Thank's jimmy
  15. Hi, brax What i was trying to do was, add a computer to an existing lan home network. My " Host" computer= XP-Pro SP2, is connected to a satalite rcvr. via cable's to an antenna outside. It work's fine and has for some time. At present ( on my established network) I have one "Client" connected. Via, cable to 4 port Hub ( which is connected via cable to "Host's network adapter). This unit work's fine and connect's great to the Satalite . I have 2 available port's on the Hub that I'm attempting to add a Laptop and later another desktop to. Growing Up

If your my age, that is not funny. jimmy
  22. BurtStark & ghorjus That sound's really logical . Glance at my proposed (adjusted) procedure and see if I'm correct. Remove parent HDD Install new HDD Load OS, reboot after OS install and Remove Device's, shutdown and remove HDD. Install new HDD in machine in ques. and boot-up, load required drivers. Does this sound correct ? Thank's for your reply's. jimmy
