  1. I am an administrator on my Vista machine (home premium) and many times other users don't log off. In XP, I am able to use the task manager to log other users off, including other administrators. With Vista, I get a message that it's denied. Any help on this? Thanks

  3. You don't want to run two because there is a chance that the definition files of one could be targeted by the other, thus conflicting with your protection. Anti-Spyware apps and Anti-Virus apps use different type of definitions, and are rigorously tested to work together. Most AV vendors won't test or develop their products to work along side other AVs.
  4. It comes up all the time on the web: Pick a Strong Password! But what does that really mean? There are many misconceptions about passwords that can lead to trouble. Insecure passwords are very vulnerable and subject to attack. Before you can understand how to prevent these issues, you must first understand how passwords are used and stored. When you sign up on any (legit and reputable) website, you are asked to provide a password to accompany your username. What you may not know about this password is that it is not stored on the server as plaintext, that is, text that is in a readable s
  5. I don't have a wireless setup, so this question isn't directly related to me. I'm just curious. Let's say someone had an unprotected wireless setup and someone else was using it to access the internet to do illegal things. Can authorities find that person, or would all tracks be pointed back to the owner of the network? For example colleges. When students get on a university's wireless campus, how is it that the RIAA finds who is downloading music? Do universities require you to log in to use the wireless (or wired) network? If so, I can then understand how they are found. But I don't s
  6. In school I decided that I wanted my first project to be a movie trailer. I chose the movie Anchorman--but with a twist. the movie is a comedy but the trailer portrays it as a drama. Those of you who've seen it will know how hard that would be. Anyway.. here it is. Take a look, tell me what you think. Knowing YouTube these days, it may not be up for long. Matt

LOL, that's actually pretty close to what we think happened. I'm just glad that Jeff's fixing abilities are greater than my screwing-up abilities! Hahaha, that'd be a long fall from this place!

For those of you who were on the forums last night around midnight EST, you might have noticed that they were either down or painfully slow. I can safely say that it was 100% my fault. So, here's what happened. Last night, Jeff and I were working on one of Jeff's side projects. It involved php, and for a while, everything was going fine. Then, I hacked up a quick code snippet, it was about five or six lines. We uploaded it and tested it out, and those five lines completely consumed the server. Remember, BT is running on a pretty powerful box of its own, its not on shared hosting. MySQL
  18. I once had an issue where the computer would crash on searches. If you decide it isn't malware, try turning off the indexing function on the search. That's what caused my issues.
  19. You mean where the X, minimize, and max buttons go? and you can't resize windows? If you're having that problem, its the exact same issue that I had, and was never able to fix it. I eventually just removed compiz
  20. I just setup my firewall doing the following: iptables -F iptables -P INPUT DROP iptables -P FORWARD DROP iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT I tested it on HackerWatch and Shields Up, and it passed. I just want a personal opinion. Does that look good? Is there something else I should paste for you to check?
