I lot of my friends do not like logitech mouse/keyboards due to past experiences, but I personally have no problem with them. I use pretty decent Microsoft keyboard and mouse, I have no problems with it, and I have heard pretty good reviews for most of them. The Belkien products, though, I heard were excellent (Belkien's mouse is known for being the rechargeable one )

Exactly, but just doing it for experience can't hurt at all . I wasn't planning to use OSX as my primary or even secondary OS, just something to try out and have fun with. I always loved apple OSs, just never got the chance to really have fun with them after the first one I had when I was a child and at school....

I really enjoyed taking this quiz, helped a lot when I first got into unix/linux. check it out:
http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/
NOTE: Use in IE
It basically helps you choose which distro is best for you, by asking you certain questions. I recommend this for all beginners....what do the linux experts say?

To answer everyones question:
Don't worry guys, I've been using FF for a long time now, long before it made a formal release. I only use IE for uncompatible websites and windows update.
and TT75, I tried the links, it gave confirmation that it worked, but truthfully, it didn't. I have the installer, but I haven't had time to try reinstalling it, and I want to leave that as my last resort. Any other ideas?

I did hear CFH was coming back to US, but I guess we'll see...

try the NIC is a different slot or different computer. Maybe its your motherboard....

It depends which file system you want, XP usually goes on NTFS, but FAT32 should work as well. Most probably the installation with go with NTFS.

i've heard SLI costs around $1000+ for the equipment, dunno if its true, probably does with all the insurance investments of cooling, PS, etc...

I've done some reading, i'll do some more research and see what I can do...
By the way, thats macmarauder....

XP doesn't take much space by itself, but many programs need to be installed on the same partition as Windows. To be safe, i'd to a minimum partition of 5-10GB, especially since you have such a big harddrive.

Has anyone tried it? I want to experiment with it, figure things out, but I never have the time to sit down and fiddle. I found a set of instructions at http://www.tech-recipes.com/apple_mac_tips964.html; Anyone want to experiment?
Also, seriously, is this illegal in any type of way (assuming you obtain your copy of OSX Tiger legally)? Technically you aren't stealing anything, but just to be sure....

think I shall purchase a lightsaber.

What is your operating system? there is a feature on XP pro that does just that, but as I said, it requires XP pro. However, there are other alternatives

The two video cards are connected by a video bridge connector for lack of a better explanation by me at this point. You then connect your monitor to that and both of the cards feed information into it. That way you don't have to have a proprietary special montior, although that would have made them more money haha.

Yeah, but this way they'll make so much more money

I found this at buyabs.com, seems pretty factual:
The two graphics boards are connected by a special SLI™ connector made by NVIDIA® that lets both boards share the graphics processing task simultaneously, over the ultra-fast PCI Express bus. Say goodbye to performance bottlenecks and say hello to mind-blowing visuals. -The result: faster graphics speed and maximum performance.

Eh, at least I'll have fun!

Welcome, everyone and anyone. have fun here, thats all I have to say!

I'm gonna head over to G4 and PM a mod there to see if we can "borrow" the stickies for besttechie. I'm sure they'll have no problem....
EDIT: I just copied (and added link tags, etc) to G4's recommended links, tips, etc. stickie. It took a long time, but I managed to finish it. I contacted a mod at G4 (mlegg510) and asked him if I could post it here, so I guess i'll have to wait....
-
Oh, now they are killing this off too....Fortunately, ASAP can help take over, but i'd rather have G4 tech boards open anyday....This is going to cause a lot of problems....

Nice! Good resource to have. Thanks!

CRAP!!!
I just visited Pierce's web site for the first time tonite, and found out its very similar to what I have planned to build!!!!
Sorry Pierce, I did NOT steal your idea, I just came up with it a bit late it seems...
Well, I've done too much legwork on this already, and have too many experts lined up to write articles, to stop now so I guess it will just be a bit of friendly competition.
The site layout will be totally different but the idea of having anyone able to submit articles, or ideas, is similar. Also the News and general content are pretty much what I had in mind for mine too. I guess I'll just have to write an article for Pierce's site, and maybe he'll write one for mine!!
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Perhaps instead of making a news section on your website, link the news section to Pierce's website--with his consent, of course. That way, you wouldn't have to work as hard and you would get your first affliate, and Pierce would benefit from the increased traffic....just a thought...

Good luck, if/when you may want to get hosting, drop me a PM....My friend and I are starting a hosting business!
Hope it goes well, as for the content, we all know it'll be first class stuff....

Madbob, just wanted to say, when we respond to peoples threads we try to include links :D .
ampshock, you overclock a lot, so probably getting a good stock heatsink and a maybe 4-5 fans (if space permits) will suffice. Also, try your best not to obstruct air circulation by using rounded IDE cords (if you are building a new computer, usually rounded cords cost the same as ribbon) and good placement. Other than that, don't overclock TOO much and you should be fine.
