JDoors
My town's police department now has marked and unmarked Dodge Chargers with hemis. While driving I saw police lights up ahead, but something didn't "register" quite right. When I got up there, there it was, a Hemi Charger squad car. Not ten minutes later I saw an unmarked one. Now they're everywhere. Darn taxes! This is from a Web search (I'm not in Puerto Rico!) but other than the graphics, it looks like the locals:
TheTerrorist_75
They cost the same as an equally equipped Chevy or Ford. If they outlast the previous used makes the cops have had it will be a wise investment.
Honda_Boy
I think the chargers probably have a better tuned exhaust cause crown vic cruisers use the same exhaust as the consumer LX Sport version which is basically dual of the regular. The consmer exhaust for the R/T Hemi has a higher flow I'm sure for the sportiness of the vehicle. Most police editions have stronger hoses and a few other parts so they can chase. According to consumer report I think it was, the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Town Car are considered pretty reliable but not the Chrysler 300C or the Charger. I could be wrong. That could just be an older statement about previos 300's before the Charger. One thing they need to do more is have unmarked tuned sport compacts and what not to stop illegal street racing. They do it but not much. Edited August 26, 2006 by Honda_Boy

robroy
Here it appears to be Durangos that are #1 choice at present for SUV and Chevy Impala's for the City cops
Honda_Boy
in my town it's mostly crown vics with a few Impalas and speckles of unmarked suburbans.
JDoors
I long for the days when all you had to keep your eyes peeled for were Crown Vics, Caprices and Dodge Diplomats. Now it's a guessing game ... is it? Isn't it? Just saw a car in a parking lot this morning (make escapes me for the moment) that you'd never suspect was a cop car. I pointed it out to the person I was with and said, "unmarked cop car." She looked, looked again, didn't believe me. We walked up to it and there in the front seat was the computer & other equipment. What gave it away to me? Some VERY well hidden strobe lights. Not something I'd notice on the highway I bet. Thank goodness I never break the law ...
Honda_Boy
you know soon when V8's go the way of the dodo because of fuel prices, there'll be 4 cylinders out there too with the V6's. Unfortunatly it'll be all Cobolts (Which consumer report says are junk), Neons, and Focuses. Then they'll disvover the horsepower the tiny Civic Si engines produce. Now they're everywhere. Darn taxes! This is from a Web search (I'm not in Puerto Rico!) but other than the graphics, it looks like the locals:Ahh if that were all there was to it.Here in Texas they made a big fanfare about property tax reform and school funding. They had multiple special sessions of the legislature and finally hammered out a compromise which lowered property tax rates, but imposed new and higher business and franchise taxes and raised cigarette taxes by $1 a pack ($10 a carton). I am waiting for my big tax break, but read in the local paper (Dallas Morning News) that the average homeowner in the city will see a whopping $85 reduction in their property tax bill which will be over $3000 this year. So a couple who each smokes a pack a day will pay over $700 more in cigarette taxes but save a whopping $85 on the property tax bill . Not to mention the higher costs which will be passed on to consumers by businesses who saw their taxes jump up .On a side note, I heard it predicted that the cost of gas would drop to $2.00 per gallon by election day ...ooops that is by halloween. JDoors
Ahh if that were all there was to it. ... Well-l-l-l ... I was just using literary license by blaming higher taxes on the squad cars. 'Round here it's the schools that bludgeoned through a $300-per-home increase (then immediately gave the administrators 50% raises!). I work in the gaming industry and since our casino is the most successful in the state they've nickle-and-dimed us to death. The casino pays an 80% tax rate (state, county, city, plus "required" donations). The most recent was a 3% hike that gets transferred, in its entirety, to one of our competitors (who claims they need more money -- No kidding? Who DOESN'T need more money?). No ones crying, they're still makin' money, but guess who winds up "paying" the high taxes? Employees (through lost benefits) and customers (through lower payouts). Employee moral is down and customer satisfaction is down, which leads to fewer customers, which leads to lower revenue, which leads to more benefit cuts and even lower payouts -- which leads to lower tax revenue, which leads to the "need" for more taxes. And 'round we go. They're killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Guess they never read children's stories, huh?
Steamhead
psh. Here in my town there's a tuned up camero that sounds cooler than any car at our school. The guy that drives it hangs around the school to catch the idiots that spin out and stuff. The thing sounds awesome.
