Tracking Cookie

Recommended Posts

for severa days ive scanned with Adaware

and each time it has come up with 4 tracking cookies

i remember pete posted once and

said these companys place a small pixel

through your cookies

on your sys

then follow your surfing habits

to me this is an infridgment on my privacy

my Q

how do i stop this intrusion

i know if you install the pro version

of adaware

it wont allow the intrusion

im on my way to block first party cookies and see if that works

any ideas

here is an interesting article posted by flash4

on tracking cookies and malware in general

it seems no mater wht browser you use

trcking cookies will find there way to your sys

IE gets more because more use it

ive used slimbrowser fore some years

and it is the first time ive had the tracking cookie

problem

according to the article they get more sophisticated every day

it seems by placing the site in the restricked zone

it goes some way to help

did they have these troubles with type writers

I expect to see some cookies left behind from surfing the net. I have stopped being overly concerned with them possibly "seeing" where I go. If those cookies are interested in all the tech sites I go to, so be it. Before I visit a site that needs me to login with secure data I make sure to clean my computer of any intrusive crap. My anti-virus recognizes most malicious cookies.

When I am done for the day I just completely delete the contents of my Temporary Internet Files, History and Cookies folders. I check my Temp folder for entries that I do not want. There are a couple of items in the Temp folder that pertain to my anti-virus that aid in detection and scanning that must stay. Spyware Blaster does a decent job in blocking many malicious cookies. Opera has an option to delete private data plus CCleaner does a great job in deleting additonal crap.

After doing my normal routine of cleaning AdAware only finds a couple of MRUs.

If you use Internet Explorer use the Tools menu, select Internet Options.

In the Internet Options dialog box select the Privacy tab.

In the Websites section select the Edit button.

In the textbox type the name of the websites that're forcing those cookies on you and hit Enter.

For example, I have (among many others):

180solutions.com

adbrite.com

admonitor.com

adserver.com

advertising.com

atdmt.com

fastclick.com

hitbox.com

maxserving.com

qksrv.net

Plus a bunch with 'casino,' 'click,' and ... uh-hem ... 'sex' in the website title.

You should be able to get the site name from AdAware. Once the site name is in your cookie-override list IE will not allow cookies from those sites at all.

Dissable 3rd party cookies in any browser you use. Most cookies are a necessary evil, but are quite safe in that they enable you to interact with the site you are on. Third party cookies though are IMO purely evil and have nothing to do with the site you are currently on. They usually track you to sell the info to advertisers. Firefox disables these by default. Looks like we have the same surfing and cleaning habits TT75... :D

Ad-Aware finds MRU's only.... ^_^

just clear your cache after using the internet and a firewall won't hurt either.

Get spybot and use the immunize feature , and get spyware blaster

Both are free. You can also use the IESpyad immunizations.

Basically these will add these domains to the restricted zone list which will prevent them from putting cookies on your machine.
