X-Cannon
A bit of a read but plzz..Today I noticed that my dads computer was making a lot of noise, so he suggested I clean it, I take it clean off all the dust from the power supply mother board etc.. after putting it together , I cant see anything on the monitor, and computer starts some dinging noise (stops after a few resets). I take a video card from another pc and put it in wont work, I take my dads vid card put it in that pc works fine Also I take another monitor and plug it in to dads pc wont work says no signal. NOW what the heck is going on? Why cant I see anything??I think I'm in way over my head, how can I fix it? Edited March 14, 2006 by X-Cannon
tictoc5150
First off, are the "dinging noises" POST beeps? and if so, take note of whether they're short beeps, long beeps and how many beeps. (POST beep codes)Have you tried reseating all cables and ram? you might've jarred something loose during the clean-up Edited March 14, 2006 by tictoc5150
X-Cannon
The beeping stopped after a few restets, but it would go beep about 2sec long stop then start after 6 sec again for 2sec. I've checked all cables and they are tight
xxkbxx
reseat the RAM, that's a possibility
X-Cannon
yep did that moved it from one slot to the other, same thing though
martymas
some times the video card drivers get corrupted and will not work. a no signal means the video card connectiongs are not working.ime haveing the same problems with a friends comptat first it showed a pink screen which normally means the connection pins are bent or broken but ive now whittled it down to the v-card. so you can look at updating those card drivers by uninstalling them first then rebootingit may help it hasent helped me but different compts different methodsmarty Edited March 15, 2006 by martymas
X-Cannon
wish I could but I cant see anything when I plug in a monitor in that PC, the card works great tested it on another PC, It might be the motherboard? what do you think? how can I make sure 100%? shanenin
It might be the motherboard? what do you think? how can I make sure 100%?You can rule out all other things , if all of the other parts are good, you can probably assume it is the motherboard. If you are using an agp card, try a pci one if possible. If their is onboard video try it with out the card. Also try just one stick of memery in different slots. I would also try and boot it without any drive connected.
X-Cannon
I was thinking of geting a pci v-card just to see what was going on with it but the cheapeds price I can find is $33 + tax and its only a 32 mb card. Also it only has one stick of memory 256 mb. I will try it without any drives connected, BUT there is a wire thats right beside the intergraded sound its attached then the other end has 2 plugs one white and one black, dont know where they go?? shanenin
Just curious, did you just use air to clean it?
X-Cannon
ya compressed air, in short bursts, I regularly clean the inside of the pc to free it up from any dust
martymas
have you checked your power?if it dosent give a no signal sign on your screen then it may be a power problem if your video card is is not connected properly it will show a no signal on your screen but if your screen is black ide try and look to see if your power supply is some way missing a connection does your compt power up ?marty Edited March 18, 2006 by martymas
X-Cannon
it shows a no signal, as if nothing was pluged in at all, on another monitor its a black screen but the green let on the monitor blinks on and off.computer powers up its just that I cant see anything on the monitor
martymas
it looks as tho the problemis the video card or the connection from the monitor to the v-cardlook at the pins on the connection end and see if any are broken i dont think it is the moboif it is newat first i was like mrbill and thought it was the ram im still having problems with a friends compimuch similiarmarty
xxkbxx
It is possible for this problem (turns on but no signal) to be the CPU, RAM, motherboard, Video Card, or Monitor. Pretty much everything but the power supply can be ruled in - making it extremely hard to test unless you have test parts on you.
