Yes, Firefox does sometimes not go well with flash player.  Any other high-end extensions?  Sometimes, Firefox also has an odd way of handling cache, which can consume system resources.  Try clearing you cache.

Thanks, cleared cache and turned off Java and the problem went away.

Flash plugin, perhaps.  The Flash and Java plugins have never been very well behaved on my machines.

Isn't there a disadvantage in turning off Java and/or Java Script? Won't this create problems when using various programs which employ Java, of which there appear to be many?

I left Java script on, and just turned off Java. Certianly I expect to run into a problem eventually, but I really dont hit any sites regularly that use it. This isn't a problem on my primary machine, but this crappy one I use on occassion.
