italyct23
Hello,Last week my computer started restarting all the time no matter what happened. Upon restarted, I noticed the CPU temp was around 131F which seems a little high. I went out and purchased the Thermaltech Volcano AMD CPU cooler with Arctic Paste. This cooler has three speed settings. I made sure the paste doesn't touch any resistors. Once installed, the computer ran much better and does not restart now until I tax it with muliple programs or a game. Obvisouly, I am still not satisfied as it should run fine at all times. Even when this very powerful fan is put on full speed, the computer still restarts with certain programs and games. I downloaded a utility to tell me the CPU temp of my SOYO KT400 Ultra motherboard. It seems to run around 105F which doesn't seem bad. When the computer restarts, the BIOS screen usually shows a temp in the low 120's which still doesn't seem to high right?I've run a memtest on my PC3200 512MB RAM with no problems. My CPU is AMD Athlon XP 2500+ with no overclocking. My video card is ATI Radeon 9700 Pro which has a cooling fan on it. I also have a PCI cooling fan in the bottom of the case exhausting the air and another regular fan under the power supply exhausting the air. I am clueless as why the pc still restarts. My power supply is 400W and tested perfectly with a power supply tester.I ran updated Ad-aware, Spybot, CW-shredder, and Hi-Jack this all in safe mode. pro1driver
temps conversionsince you have an AMD, AMD's do run a bit hotter. use the site i sent you a link to, and do the conversions yourself.then, go into the BIOS, maybe you (or by default) have the temp shut off set too low....?? if so, raise it up.its not uncommon for an AMD to run as high as 90 degree's celceus. IEatHardDrives
131 F is very hot for intel or AMD i thought at 100 F a computer would shut down to prevent damage.

pro1driver
right now, i just turned on my AMD pc. its showing 34 degree's celceus, and 112 degree's farenheit.so, i'd say that 100 degree's farenheit is not going to kill my pc. as i said, the temps listed for most if not all cpu's, is celceus, not farenhiet. CPU scorecardAs for the restarting problem have you made sure no other programs are running while using the games? Try shutting off the restart and allow for a error screen to pop up. You can do that by opening System Properties>Advanced>Start up and Recovery Settings>Take the Check mark out of Automatically restart. Then make sure Write an event to the system log and Send Administrative Alert are checked. Then apply the changes and reboot. When the error comes up write it down and post the whole error here. Could be as simple as a Driver for the graphics card that needs updated. Edited August 29, 2005 by lefty1953
TheTerrorist_75
The maximum that CPU should not exceed is 80C/176F. Normal operating temperature would be between 40C/104F and 65C/149F. Lower than 40C/104F at idle is great and over 65C/149F underload is still okay, but be cautious when approaching the 80C/176F mark. If setting a high temperature warning set it at 70C/158F and shutdown at 75C/167F.You do have a problem in your HJT log with BHO/CLSID/Toolbar Deep Dive. I shall move this to the Hijack This section of the board. Edited August 29, 2005 by TheTerrorist_75
