Rename Your Recycle Bin

here is a quick way to rename your recycle bin.

the reg edit that was kellys' XP Korner, had made a little mistake and it will not work with out a simple change.

so i will skip on what to change and tell you how to make a reg file that will enter when you double click on it.

open up your note pad. and copy and paste this to it

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder]

"Attributes"=hex:70,10,00,20

"CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000

name the file recyclerename.reg, and save it.

then when you double click on it it will be entered to the registry, and then when you reboot, you rt click on the recycle bin, you will see rename there.

Win98/ME

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

Double click Default in the right pane and under Value data: change the name to what you want then click OK and exit the registry Editor.

Terrorist, I thank you for leading me in the right direction...I could be wrong but I think you forgot something...

this is how it works in winme:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

in right hand pane change DEFAULT to Trash Can or whatever

then I had to go down to the third line: LOCALIZED STRING

@C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\shell32.dll,-8964@1033,Recycle Bin

I changed that line to:

@C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\shell32.dll,-8964@1033,Trash Can

check that out and tell me if I'm wrong.

I couldn't remember the exact items to change in ME. It's been about 4 years since I had a ME PC to play with. Win98SE I just do the above.

Thank you so much for this info. After searching all over the internet, trying this remedy and that, the info that you provided was the only one that worked. I have XP Pro with SP3.
