Fred Langa is a well known and respected geek, err, computer expert. I receive his newsletters and this "XP-on-a-disk" was covered a while ago. I would not hesitate to try something Fred recommends, he is sure to have tested it out thoroughly.

Side note: I can't understand how someone can create an XP disk, containing enough XP code to run the OS, without bumping into some MicroSoft copyright infringements. Maybe the fact that it's FREE has something to do with it as there is no profit, but isn't it like giving away XP for free? Better grab this while Bill Gates is still sleeping. ;)

hi team yes i read chappys post

how i came about the disk

the friend who posted it to me

is a programer and tech tutor at

one of our univarsitys

and i presume

there must be some sort of agreement

between microsoft and the unis

to supply these cds .

to students

i know our unis has all these

software packages at half price

and i think i read where this also applys in the usa

he knows im a keen computer user

.with out much knowledge on

compter tech.

so he dropped it of for me to look at

as he is attending a tech and compt

conference in the usa

for world univarsitys

hopefully he will come back with

how the tech has advanced .

when chappy posted that article

was there an option to down load it?

if i knew how to post it on the board from the cd

i would, so some of you could have a look at it.

"when chappy posted that article

was there an option to down load it?"

I'm pretty sure the article had a link to the site, where there was an option to download it. Oh! Think I found it,

right here

I THINK the download links are under the screen shots and a "big grey box" on that site (still with me, Marty?).

I haven't tried it yet, I leave downloading stuff to Son (I don't know how, sigh, I know, I know, I'm a noob!!)

There was quite a lot of interest about Chappy's link (I'm sure Chappy downloaded it) but haven't read any opinions about it yet. Guess it needs a broken computer to be tested :) Must be BT experts are doing a good job!

Sooooo, like Marty said, anyone try this out yet? I'm getting curious, too!

Makai, I'm a big chicken :D And this is something that takes Son 5 minutes, where it would take me 20 minutes to translate and decifer--I just say, "do this" and he does!!! (like when Handplane made these neat decorations for me, Son "installed" them) But when he moves out, there will be a barrage of questions from me (.....the folks here say "oooooh, noooooo....")

:)

Heh heh, I know what you mean Liz. When I first started I'd download just fine, but then couldn't find where I or Windows put the dang thing. I had installers living on my desktop, music in my pictures, pictures in my docs.. utilities in add/remove that I couldn't find. Bookmarks covered my screen, start menu too.

 Sweet Brit tried to help me clean it all up, then gave up and reformatted and showed me how to keep it tidy. (gotta love being married to a geek) I'm so proud of my system now. And I can find everything except I keep forgetting where I put IE, I use it so seldom..

hi

bozodog

like you iwas a complete dumb az

think my first week as a user i got my first virus

then spy ware and what all

and if it wasnt for techtv message board

i would have given it up

how ever goliath

and the chief

set me on the right path.

and since then ive had one virus and i dont

get any sp[yware at all now .

goliath was awesome as a helper

to new users.my i havent forgotten those days

then pete and chappy took over

and it was even better.

back to this repair disk

ive looked at it

and i intend to keep it

it has so many useful features

my advice to liz

if i can do it so can you

try it out

or any one on the board for that matter

i was worried microsoft

had some sort of moka on it but

it is straight forward

i havent looked at all of it yet

any one owning a repair shop

would need this disk

go for it liz.

This is a must for anyone using xp. To be able to boot from a cd with all the necessary files to repair, or delete files from your hard drive when it won't boot is a must have. I had forgotton that I already had this as I only use xp on my lappy. He also does a win2k version

thanks TheTerrorist_75

tho i have the cd

that is an awesome tutorial

ive been through the cd

and it will bring the price of repairs to compts

down. as there is every thing on it

for the user .

some one like my self who

isnt that tech minded

but i can follow those instructions.

tho i must admit

there are things i still need advice on.

i found you cant access safe mode.

with the disk in

nor once you boot up.and insert the disk

but that is only minor

i like the idea of access from the start button

again thanks for that tutor
