JDoors
Fred Langa is a well known and respected geek, err, computer expert. I receive his newsletters and this "XP-on-a-disk" was covered a while ago. I would not hesitate to try something Fred recommends, he is sure to have tested it out thoroughly. Side note: I can't understand how someone can create an XP disk, containing enough XP code to run the OS, without bumping into some MicroSoft copyright infringements. Maybe the fact that it's FREE has something to do with it as there is no profit, but isn't it like giving away XP for free? Better grab this while Bill Gates is still sleeping. hitest
It should be fine to use, it's a windows rescue disk. That's an awesome link that Chappy provided.
martymas
hi team yes i read chappys post how i came about the disk the friend who posted it to me is a programer and tech tutor at one of our univarsitys and i presume there must be some sort of agreement between microsoft and the unis to supply these cds .to students i know our unis has all thesesoftware packages at half price and i think i read where this also applys in the usahe knows im a keen computer user.with out much knowledge on compter tech.so he dropped it of for me to look at as he is attending a tech and compt conference in the usa for world univarsitys hopefully he will come back with how the tech has advanced .when chappy posted that article was there an option to down load it?if i knew how to post it on the board from the cd i would, so some of you could have a look at it.marty
blim
"when chappy posted that articlewas there an option to down load it?"I'm pretty sure the article had a link to the site, where there was an option to download it. Oh! Think I found it, right here I THINK the download links are under the screen shots and a "big grey box" on that site (still with me, Marty?). I haven't tried it yet, I leave downloading stuff to Son (I don't know how, sigh, I know, I know, I'm a noob!!)There was quite a lot of interest about Chappy's link (I'm sure Chappy downloaded it) but haven't read any opinions about it yet. Guess it needs a broken computer to be tested Must be BT experts are doing a good job!Sooooo, like Marty said, anyone try this out yet? I'm getting curious, too!Liz
Makai
I'm curious Liz. What about downloading don't you understand? It's pretty straight forward and you know you have all this help right at your fingertips.
blim
Makai, I'm a big chicken And this is something that takes Son 5 minutes, where it would take me 20 minutes to translate and decifer--I just say, "do this" and he does!!! (like when Handplane made these neat decorations for me, Son "installed" them) But when he moves out, there will be a barrage of questions from me (.....the folks here say "oooooh, noooooo....") bozodog
Heh heh, I know what you mean Liz. When I first started I'd download just fine, but then couldn't find where I or Windows put the dang thing. I had installers living on my desktop, music in my pictures, pictures in my docs.. utilities in add/remove that I couldn't find. Bookmarks covered my screen, start menu too. Sweet Brit tried to help me clean it all up, then gave up and reformatted and showed me how to keep it tidy. (gotta love being married to a geek) I'm so proud of my system now. And I can find everything except I keep forgetting where I put IE, I use it so seldom..

robroy
This is a must for anyone using xp. To be able to boot from a cd with all the necessary files to repair, or delete files from your hard drive when it won't boot is a must have. I had forgotton that I already had this as I only use xp on my lappy. He also does a win2k version
