hi team up until last week

my dial speed has been around 45-46kbh

now for some reason it has shot up to

52 -53 -54

and has been dialing at that speed for over a week

now i know the line noise is a factor

and the processes go some way to

slow it down

but that is a difference of 7=8

any one know why

im not complaining but

there is quite a difference

That much of a difference is likely due to a phone company equipment upgrade or repair. You may be enjoying a side-benefit of the local phone company upgrading their equipment for other services. Or they may have switched you to another, clearer, line for various reasons (upgrades, routine maintenance, etc.).

You would probably know about it if this was the case, but 'tweaks' and other changes in your system settings can increase your throughput, but probably not to the extent you're getting.

Forgot to mention: Your ISP may have upgraded to full or a subset of "acceleration" technologies. Check your ISP's help/support pages to see if they've made any changes recently.

Yeah, that is very good connection speed.

Not sure what NewZealand limits 56K connections to , but in the US the FCC arbitrarily limits it to 53Kbps allegedly to limit crosstalk between wired pairs and allow enough bandwidth for the call waiting and operator interrupt signals.

http://www.monticello.net/html/56k.html

has some good info on 56K modems.

Offhand, I would say that possibly your telephone company is upgrading and replacing older lines, or your ISP has upgraded their software and equipment.

Hopefully it will remain high.

Looks like your phone lines might have been upgraded. I always get a connection speed of 49.2 and my daughter gets 50.9 using a different modem but the same phone line. I use a US Robotics external modem.

hi team

after reading your replys

i contacted my isp and my line company

ans they both have upgraded their

so it seems my increase in dial up is twofold

line company and isp.

as well

my isp has decreasaed my fees by $4

a month.

ok it isnt that much to rave about

but at least they are looking after their customers

however small it is .

in answer to pete's

Q

the isp says

if you can get better that 51-52

i quote you are doing brilliant

as it was i was happy with

45 -46

thanks you lot.
