Password Protecting

Ok right off the bat, I'm not trying to hide porn or anything. So no flaming or anything please. I'm wanting to password protect my website folders so that them...Well don't get deleted. But is there a simple way to do this. The stuff that I found on Google is all complicated or you have to buy something. Any advice. Thanks.

You can make the folder that they are in "private" if you use ntfs as a file system...

you didn't say what os you have, but this is for xp. i don't know which "website" folders, but you can right click on the folder, choose properties, then security and set permissions there. if this is not what you want post back.

xp pro = from explorer, do tools/folderoptions and then see the view tab. once there, uncheck 'simple file sharing' and hit OK.

then go to u'r web folder and rclik it and choose 'sharing & security'. then see the security tab.

u should see a listing of the 'default' security users/groups. u can hit 'advanced' and then uncheck 'inherit permissions ...' checkbox. this will bring up a dialog where u shoulcd choose 'copy' option. once u do that, u can add/remove permissions as u see fit. eg - only leave administrators and u'r personal account.

for this to be effective, u must remove all users cept those u DO want to be able to manipulate the permissions from admin group. eg - admin group has keys to the kingdom so they can reverse anything u do above.

if u'r xp home, forget all the above as i don't know if it supports ntfs folder/file level permissions. read it's docs.

u COULD just copy the source folder and put it in u'r home folder if it's 'private' or use some .zip util and assign a password to the .zipped copy etc. eg - there ARE many other options. folderwatch, for instance, will keep 'on the fly' copies to any location(s) u choose

I use Lock Folder XP but it aint free. Great piece of software though.

Have you ever tried backing them up to a CD-R? Either way it would be a verry good idea.
