flashh4
Warning: April 8, 2014, Microsoft will stop supporting Windows XP, and it will immediately become a much easier target for criminals intent on theft. There will be no updates !Just a heads up so you will have time to prepare with a new Operating System !! Chuck
baker7
Chuck: I recently visited my Dad and Stepmom and worked on their Dell Desktop. I told them that the EOL Date was fast approaching for Windows XP, and that they would have to upgrade thier computer'a OS to either Win7 or Win8 - Since my Dad's Laptop (a year newer then mine, and an inspiron 1545) has Windows 7 64 Bit, I recommended Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit for her desktop, because Windows 8 is so far removed from Windows 7 in the way it works, that I didn't want to confuse them, since they are both comfortable with Windows 7. The second Reason is that they can get the upgrade or the full install of the program at a discount from her work, and we should be able to update the OS prior to the "dropdead date" of April 8, 2014. I wonder how many people are still using XP and are unaware of this still? Brian

bozodog
What's gonna happen to the many. many businesses and medical facilities using XPpro? Seems everywhere I go that's the OS of choice.
flashh4
I imagine they will just have to update to a newer system as they have in the past ! An Operating System that is no longer supported by Microsoft cannot be patched to secure against any new vulnerabilities, and is therefore wide open to contracting an infection. So this will produce the question if it's worth "Malware Removal Specialist" to clean a non-supported system ! Be like chasing your tail around & around !! Windows 98SE - Support ended on 11 Jul 2006 Windows 2000 - Support ended on 13 July 2010 Windows ME - Support ended on 11 Jul 2006 Windows XP - Support ended on 30 Sep 2004 Windows XP SP1 - Support ended on 10 Oct 2006 Windows XP SP1a - Support ended on 10 Oct 2006 Windows XP SP2 - Support ended on 13 Jul 2010 Windows Vista (no SPs installed) - Support ended on 13 Apr 2010 Windows Vista (SP1) - Support ended on 12 July 2011 Windows 7 (no SPs installed) - Support ended on 09 Apr 2013 Chuck
TheTerrorist_75
The best protection against attacks on an operating system, even those that are outdated, is the knowledgeable user of that system. If you use safe surfing habits the likelihood that your system will be compromised is reduced significantly. For prevention use a third party browser, instead of IE, that is kept updated to patch security holes, use a hardware and software firewall. You should also use either MVPs hosts file or SpywareBlaster, a decent anti-virus that will protect even the outdated OS (I use MSE), MBAM and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, OpenDNS, WOT, Adblock Plus, disable Java for when it is not necessary, set up your browser so you need to give permission for any Flash objects to run and do not install any programs that try to include third party programs that cannot be unchecked or are still installed when unchecked. Also quit downloading operating systems, cracked programs, movies, songs and games from torrent sites.
