Need Advice From Hjt Experts

i need some help from you guys. i want to know how you save your links so they will work when you retrive them from your folders or files where you keep your help,canned speeches & other help to reply to posted logs ??? mine doesn't work when i get them from my folder where i keep all links. & i use wordpad. so any help on how you save your links ?????

I keep my links in FireFox, in a folder called "Security Links".

My Replies to Logs, I have a Folder on my desktop named HJT Stuf (Forgot 1 f).

For my canned speeches. I've found Cannery very good (Look for the topic in TC's learning hall)

how do you get the links to work DKNOPPIX ????? COULD YOU TALK ME THRU YOUR PROCESS OF TAKEING A LINK FROM A WEB SITE OR POST & PUTTING IT INTO A FOLDER THEN MAKEING THE LINK WORK ????

Hiya flash

There is i find the hard way and the easy way.

To create a link on this board for example, its fairly easy to do.

When you find something on the net or something that you want to bring peoples attention to this is what you have to do.

Go to the site and copy and paste the address from the address bar. If your in this forum, when you click on add reply, where you place your text, is where all the magic begins.

See that little http:// up top in your code buttons click on that once. Now a box will open up and a little http:// will be sitting there hilighted, delete that. Take the address you got from the web and paste it into there. Another box opens up enter the title of the page or link and hit ok. When someone reads a post and clicks on that link, they will go to that page. You can modify it anyway you want in the title box, you can call it here, or there, or whatever you want.

If you want to keep a list of good sites to visit, copy and paste the addresses down and make them into a word file or something or even a notpad file and you can copy and paste them the same way as described above. Hope that helps

sorry john, i know that. maby dknoppix you can tell me since you are also in COYOTE. how do you get links copied , put in folders,then retrive to post so the links work !!!!!!!!!! or is there another way ??????

For links....I copy the link, go to manage favorites in Firefox, then save it.

Then I just go to it, right click it, and select properties and copy/paste the link.

well maby that would help but i dont have firefox, so guess ill have to keep searching, i know theres got to be a way to do this.

Now you know I am far from an expert and I may be totally off base here, so if you want to throw something at me, its ok and I'm sorry But if you have IE, is there anyway to do this through Outlook? I know I can email links and I know there are folder options in Outlook....how to coordinate these, such as keeping all the links in the same Outlook folder, I have no idea but I bet you'd know. Opening Outlook would be an extra step, *shrugs* but if it works.....??? Liz

I have several Notepad documents that I keep my links, and canned speechs in.

If you want a link to work, you have to save the link coded, using BB Code (or whatever code other boards use).

This,

[URL=http://www.besttechie.net/]Besttechie[/URL]

, best site on the net.

will give you this (when copied and pasted from Notepad):

Besttechie, best site on the net.

Just put in the URL, and the name/text, you want to use.

This,

[URL=http://www.besttechie.net/][COLOR=red][SIZE=5][B]Besttechie[/B][/SIZE][/COLOR][/URL]

, best site on the net.

will give you this:

Besttechie, best site on the net.

Also this depends on the forum software as to how you code the links.

For instance BestTechie's is like this:

[url=http://www.besttechie.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2506]Besttechie[/url]

Which gives you this..]Besttechie

Note that it uses URL for this board, and the http address is after the URL=, whereas G4TV uses this:

[L=Besttechie]http://www.besttechie.net/forums/index.php?[/L]

that uses "L" for the link to give you the same thing there, and the text is right after the L=.

I have 2 folders for my most common links, 1 for codeing here and another for G4. If I'm just doing a quick link that's not common, I just do it by hand at whatever board I'm at.
