Ccleaner

recently i installed Ccleaner

on the recomendation of some ome pushing the Ccleaner

barrow

and now i have a registry entry deleted by C cleaner

which is need to load the programs

now my Q how do i

get that registry entry back

and take that bloody program off the bloody

site

i know it has given trouble to the not so aware

in the past

but that needs to be stressed

when recomending the program

ive tried the scannow now

option also the check disk

but the entrys are stacking up

and giving lots of trouble

my sys is vista

Hi Marty,

Does ccleaner give you an option to back up registry before entries are removed? Hopefully it does by default. Maybe you can restore before deletion. I have never used ccleaner. I use regseeker and it does give an option for backup of registry. I guess the ad's help pay for the site. Hope you get the problem fixed Marty.

I use CCleaner every week but like every other "tool" I don't allow it to remove something if I don't know what it is. If you know what program is affected you could 'uninstall' it then reinstall. That should repair any missing registry entries.

It looks like you do have to "tell" CCleaner to remind you to back up registry entries so they can be undone (under Options, Advanced). I can't find an option to RESTORE the files though.

in my first post

i know this site

and no onw ould post with out reason

as it happened i had exported the

registry

which i normally do

having just installed

vista

i was completly lost

and that was the reason to install ccleaner

to keep my sys clean

i have had trouble with it in the past

when i saw the post recomending ccleaner

i was looking for a reg program

normally i have used regcleaner

but vista wont except

What , they finally have something with Silverlight content? I had practically forgotten I installed that on my computer since it is never used.

All you do is open the CCleaner backup folder, find the backup file for when you goofed (it's dated), right click the file and select Merge.

yes TT i did that

and all seems ok now

if it had been xppro

i would have fixed it promptly

but if you notice ive

posted for vista fixs 2-3 times

ime not that impressed with it

but my family bought it for my birthday

so to acknowledge them i installed it

or to be precise

i up graded from xp

this sys should drive users to linux

[but they are mass producing

so many versions

it is hard to keep up with them]

Haven't you heard the joke Marty? People call the move from XP to Vista a "downgrade," and if they have a computer with Vista on it they're calling the move back to XP an "upgrade." Silly computer users.

YES IME LIVING PROOF OF THAT

ive used xppro for several years

and to go to vista was a dam fool move

the compt i use to post

was bought for me by a friend

whos compt i fix which is often

so i thought ide try vista

that was my first mistake i should have come to the board first

as people like your self and others

post on the pitfalls of any sys

and it wasent until i up graded to vista

i saw many posts

giving it the thumbs down

forgods sake even win 98 is far superior

to this

backward step

however ime stuck with it now so i need to make the most of it

was bill gates short of week end allowance

to put this thing on the market

as i said earlier

it didnt cost me a hell of a lot

but

i have ubuntu on another sys

and for some reason i keep reverting back to it

next time ile come to the board first

which i normally do

see how complacent we can get when we think we know it all

Personally, I think the reluctance to upgrade to Vista is more about people forgetting what a major OS upgrade entails than any flaws in the new OS.

A major OS upgrade has; ALWAYS meant some programs would no longer work under the new OS, ALWAYS meant some drivers need to be upgraded to be compatible with the new OS, ALWAYS meant optimum performance would require hardware upgrades.

I don't see the difference with Vista. The only thing that's changed is people's attitude toward upgrading. Instead of simply discussing the necessary changes they had to make and how difficult or easy they were, they just say the new OS sucks and refuse to use it.

Vista has dozens of features that are necessary, dozens of features that are better, and dozens of features that just make it look better. Once the upgrade process is completed and all programs are running as expected, it's a no-brainer to continue to use Vista.

Haha. I don't use Vista (or XP), but I've gone through OS upgrades before; some programs won't work, some need updated drivers, and the new OS works better with upgraded hardware. Vista's no different, and no Kool-Aid is required to know that.
