mikex
Xp will not allow you to delete the partition?I should allow you to crash your machine then format ntfs or fat, go ntfs, then install OS.Should is the key word.M
flashh4
why not do a repair install???? STAY SAFE
X-Cannon
I have tried to repair it and still samething. How can I crash the computer, without anything else going wrong? After I format I know what to do, I've asked 3 or 4 friends of mine and they say the've never seen this message before. ALSO I was thinking about a program the TSS was talkign about that formats your computer 100% as if you've never had anything on that HD before but can't find it. Any ideas? tg1911
Are you talking about wiping the harddrive clean?EraserKillDisk
X-Cannon
I'm leaning more towards Eraser but do you think it will slove my problem?
CurlingSteve
Are you in Windows while trying to do this?Windows won't let you format or repartition the C: drive while you're running. If you're looking to redo the entire drive, use your XP Install CD and perform a clean installation.Backup any data you'll want to reload.Backup the setup files for any applications you've downloaded.Get all your application installation CDs handy. You'll have to reinstall all your applications.Early in the install process the XP CD will let you delete any existing partitions and create + format new ones. tg1911
Either one, will wipe your harddrive, clean. Factory fresh. You run them from a boot floppy/CD.But, I would definitely try CurlingSteve's suggestion, first. Here's a link to the method used for harddrive erasing, using Eraser:Darik's Boot and Nuke
X-Cannon
Thats what I did put the XP Cd in and rebooted, but got that message when trying to format and install XP. AND now when I try to start the computer it won't let me past the bootscreen the loader goes by 1 time and than it freezes I think this is because it said "do you want to repair Windows XP Pro bootscreen" and I said yes so I can't do anything to it I'm at my other PC now and I've tried everything to get it to go past the bootscreen. Safe mode, last known good configuration, etc...
JSKY
Lets try A different approach. Go to Bootdisk.com, and make a floppy bootdisk for win98. Reboot with the floppy and at the A:> prompt type in fdisk. Then deleate any or all partitions it list. Then put in your XP CD and reboot with that. It should let you Formate then. mikex
My preference is killdisk. Free version make one pass but you could make one pass over and over and over. Then if your machine will boot from cd go with it. If not get the xp boot disks out.Fresh install for the new year.g'luckM
X-Cannon
I've just tried both the floppy methods and when I put the florry in and start the comp. It shows me this message Remove disks or other media.Press any key to restart
JSKY
do you have your PC set to boot off of the floppy first, then your CD, then your HHD?

X-Cannon
JSKY Thank you, it works now but I'm not going to install XP yet cause it's only showing 127 GB's out of 160 GB's so I have to call my PC manufacturer and tell them how can I update my BIOS to get all my HD space. X-Cannon
Ok I just formated and still get the 127 out of 160 but w/e My problem is the Ethernet and USB controlers there in the Other Devices section in the Device Manager I installed the all the drivers I got from my PC manufacturer but still it won't work, I can't go on the internet on that PC so I can't update the drivers. I formated twice, I have Win XP Pro. I need some real help PLEASE.
Chappy
Hi X-CannonThe issue with your drive not reporting the full amount is due to the 127 Gigabyte barrier which requires LBA (Large Block Adressing) to read drives of over 127 G.This was installed with SP1 for XP so once you can get online and get SP2, you will get the LBA update and your full drive should be available to you. Please explain more about your Ethernet and USB problems as XP should have the drivers for these devices natively and they should work without secondary drivers.Dave
