I apologize that my attempt in informing my fellow G4TechTV members of an injustice over there was a cause of flaming here. If you need to follow up you will need to visit the G4TechTV boards.
No apology needed, man! Pete_C is a good guy, you were trying to defend a good person, do the right thing. I respect and value the work that Pete does for others. I'm happy I supported him.

I completely agree with what has been said B - thanks for doing the usual great job. We'd do well to forget the other junk at other boards unless it is HELPFUL, which I don't see happening anytime soon.

If you have fairly boring hardware you shouldn't have any problems. Bleed-edge hardware and bargain hardware are what give you trouble, the former because it takes a while for support to appear in the Linux and the latter because cheap hardware is often dysfunctional or terminally uninteresting and therefore hard to support (or more accurately, it's hard to find someone willing to support it).
A good way to check your hardware for compatibility is to just download something like Knoppix and see if it works. And if Knoppix doesn't work it's quite possible that it's just a quirk of Knoppix.
I agree with jcl, I've used Knoppix to test computers to see if they would potentially run Linux on the hard drive. Knoppix is a great way to see if your NIC, video card, CD ROM drive are Linux compliant.

It has been brought to my attention by a member that there was some type of flaming going on here between one member and another member. This type of thing is not tolerated on this board. It is not acceptable either, and it makes members angry at other members which I don't want to happen and I'm sure no one else here does either. The two members that had the conflict shall remain nameless for privacy purposes, and the members privacy right. I don't want people blaming other people for this, and if you think you know who it is please just keep it to yourself. The thread has been moved to avoid any more problems.

My question is why would one not like Pete? He's done so much for people. I remember he spent over an hour just reading a HJT log for one person. Anyone willing to devote that much time for free doesn't deserve that kind of crap.
There are a lot of seriously messed up people on the G4 boards. Some trolls like to hurt others just because they can.
Why indeed would anyone target Pete? He provides a lot of help for newcomers and advanced users alike. I've always been impressed with his level of knowledge.

However, due to the ongoing war between squirrels and technology, once again the website will experience an outage sometime between 11 pm September 30 and ending by 6 am October 1.
We apologize for the bad behavior of those pesky squirrels. They don't really know any better. Oh, and they're evil. But it's that fluffy-tailed kind of evil that's just too cute to stay mad at.

Yeah, I heard about that. Pete_C is a good guy! I signed the petition of support to keep the trolls at bay.
I don't know why anyone would pick on Pete_C. I don't get it.

Sorry if this comes out as a grip and a rant. But why Ohh why do employers value a degree so much?
I went to another interview where everything went great but then he tells me that the only reason he can't hire me is the lack of a programming degree or any useful degree for that matter. I've got more than enough actual experience but I don't have a little pace of pieper (piece of paper) that says that I know what I'm doing. It's like a college degree is the new standard with the same value as a HS diploma.

Just so you know you can set it to ignore sigs. In the Control Panel under Board Settings look for this...
Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?
Select No and you won't see anymore sigs from anyone.

I like using the ping command to test my network connection.
For example at the prompt type: ping yahoo.com
Then you'll see if you're on-line.

I really like Thunderbird, it's a great open source e-mail client put out by Mozilla.
You can download it here.
Thunderbird supports multiple pop accounts and also has powerful junk mail filtering. I highly recommend it if you're interested in an alternative to Outlook or Outlook Express. Very easy to set-up.

The reason I locked it wasn't really because of it's size. It was because I was afriad that people were using it to bump there post counts. I was also afriad it was going to get out of control evently. This is what I will do I will reopen it in a little bit, but if I think people are just using it to bump there post count then I will drop them right back to 0.
I hope everyone can understand that. I'm reopening the word thread.

I completely agree! If I or any one else starts posting to just increase their post count or if the thread gets out of control then I completely support the thread getting locked and our post count re-set to 0.

I'm the author of the word thread that was locked. I have a small request/ suggestion.
Would it be possible to unlock the word thread and maybe increase the server capacity at BestTechie.net if there is a slow down?
I post regularly at Leoville and there are threads that exceed 1600 posts. I can understand if a thread is locked because of improper content/ spam. I whole heartedly agree wih the way the mods monitor this forum. Besttechie.net is the most friendly place I know on-line.

Speaking of which. Thanks again Hitest for inviting me over here.
I really like it here. People are great and nice and polite and very helpful.
And I love not being critisized for being a Mac person. Which is what happened to me every time I went on the G4 boards. They were always arguing to much about which is better instead of having mutual respect for all machinse for what they are. Like I do for PCs.
Everyone here does what thaty can do to help out.

) not by choice forced by illness, kidney failure and liver failure. Thank you so much Terrorist 75 for sharing your story! I can differently feel your pain. My partner's liver is much worse than mine and needs a liver now.. On the other hand I need a kidney. I'm starting to think that we are being pieced out part by part.
