  2. I have Vista Home Premium on my laptop and haven't had any problems with it. But whats the difference between Home and Ultimate?
  3. Thanks guys, I'm just not sure if I should wait like another 6 months on Vista. And irregularjoe, forget 98 and take the plunge into Windows ME.

  5. I like Avast, myself. But AVG is a very good program.
  6. My understanding with Linux is that it can't get infected with windows viruses. They are completely different formats. I have dual boot on my PC (Windows and Ubuntu) for about 8 months with no problems on the Linux side.
  7. Free CD Burning Software CDBurnerXP is a really good program. Also, #7 ImgBurn is another good one and says it works with XP and Vista (32 or 64).

  10. I have an old Toshiba Satellite 1135-S1552 laptop that I want to give to someone but the HD is bad. From what my friend Google showed me, I need a ATA-100 2.5inch form factor with a height of 9.5mm. Are all laptop HD's this height or are there different heights? I looked on Newegg but they don't list the heights of the drives.
  11. The refresh button is also located to the RIGHT of the address bar: See the DOWN arrow for expanding the addresses in the address bar? Its the button that is 2 GREEN arrows that is to the right of that - if you see the red "X" that is the STOP button Good Luck Marty Brian Sure, if you want to do it the easy way. I should have caught that but I use Firefox 95% of the time
  12. Thanks for sharing. I love Calvin
  13. It's located under the View in the menu bar. If you don't have the menu bar enabled, click on the Tools tab and select it.
  14. I have Vista on my laptop and haven't had any real problems with it. I've had no compatibility issues with printers and such. I have XP on my desktop and like it very much. I guess its because I'm familiar with it. Microsoft isn't going to give up on Vista anytime soon. They spent too much money and time on it to just throw it out.
  15. Looks good. But you know at Newegg, you can get the AMD 6000+ for $20.00 more. Just a suggestion.
  16. It was the motherboard that was bad. I got another one and went on to do a fresh install. Now I have to get everything back to the way I like it. Thanks again
  17. I reset the cmos and moved the jumpers (then back) like the manual said. No good. I'll try your other suggestions and let you know. Thanks, for your help so far
  18. My Brother says there are 2 PSUs at his house (a 430w and a 500w) but they are Apevia. I guess for temporary use it will work. Could the mobo have gone out?
  19. how powerful of a PSU do I need? My specs are: AMD 4600+, 2GB of RAM, 500GB SATA HDD, 7600GT video card, DVD drive and a Linksys wireless card. I'm going to go to my brothers house to "acquire" one.
  20. The computer was working when I left and nothing was disconnected from the computer. It's a 19" LG LCD monitor thats less than six months old. It has power and working. I have a EVGA 7600GT card in the PC and have tried the integrated video port on the mobo. The HDD light does not come on
  21. I just got back from vacation and my PC doesn't work. When you turn it on it powers on but no POST screen. I know you guys are going to ask so, I woke up my roommate (not happy) to listen for beep codes. There are none. I've tried unplugging everything like printer, external HDD but it didn't help. The PSU seems to be fine and lights come on, just nothing on the screen. I checked the monitor connections and they are fine. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Ana Oh yeah, I'm running XP Pro w/sp2, Amd 4600+ dual core, 2GB of RAM and an EVGA 7600GT
  22. We switched to an old CRT and everything is working fine. So it must be the LCD monitor.
