  1. I think you may be correct MistaMatt90. I think the above code I gave hime will change it to local time instead of greenwhich mean time.
  2. you could try to edit this file /etc/default/rcS there is a line in there that reads UTC=yes change that to UTC=no if that does not work, I have one other idea you could try.
  3. I need root privledges to do some stuff in my python script. I am currently using this technique current_user = os.geteuid() if current_user != 0: print "you need to be root to run this script" sys.exit() this will atleast politly end the script so i am able to log in as root Is it a very involved process to have the script prompt me for my root password and switch users?

    Holidays

nice to see you back :-)
  5. you are quite a well rounded women :-)
  6. I think it may be leaking ever so lightly on one side, we seem to have a little water damage in the upstairs, the paint is discolored. Plus when we move in a year or two, it will help to have a nice roof. Yes I have to pull the old shingles off. underneith the shinges are just 3/4 inch lathe with inch spaces, the kind that are used with wood shakes. I will need to add 3/8 inch OSB to make a solid smooth roof. You mentioned a ridge line vent, is that the long vent that goes accros the top, that would be nice. You say complicated, why is that(it looks simple, I don't really know)?
  7. I think it is a 12/12 pitch maybe steeper. As you can see in the picture it is asfault type shingles. I only have to do the top(steepest) part of the house, the rest has been done on a seperate occasion. The gargage also need to be done, that will be my practice roof. My plan is to wait untill it cools down and do it in september or october, it is also pretty dry then.
  8. I am the same way. I am going to tackle reroofing my house this fall, and it is a steep one.
  9. I thought maybe ubuntu saved old kernels, it apears that your old kernel is gone :-( . have you tried to downgrade to your old kernel using synaptic?
  10. can you use synaptic to downgrade your kernel? your old kernel may still be there what does this show ls -l /boot
  11. how many drives do you have? if you have just one, do: sudo /sbin/cfdisk /dev/hda if you have more then one, do: sudo /sbin/cfdisk /dev/hda sudo /sbin/cfdisk /dev/hdb then cut and paste that info. I am assuming you are using ide drives. also cut and paste your file /boot/grub/menu.lst
  12. second question first. just enter the command dmesg, and you will get output. Then you can just copy and paste the output into your bugzilla report did you compile your kernel by hand or did you let apt-get update it?
  13. thanks tenmm for the start of some googling. It seems that freezing fish cold enough kills all parasites. The fish I ate was prepackaged frozen salmon, so it was probably ok. The only thing I know for sure is i left this experience with a craving for raw fish. My wife cringes at the thought of me persuing this taste.
  14. sorry, I did not mean to delete your(murtu52) post . My mod powers got the best of me. could you have accidently erased your windows partition? what does the output of the command mount show you? edit added later/// I accidently erased murtu52's post about editing grub to boot windows 2000. That is what this post is trying to answer.
  15. I was grilling some salmonn tonight, and my hunger got the best of me. I ended up eating a big piece medrare, it was still cold in the center. It was delcious. Then i started to get worried about parasites. Do any of you eat samon as a sushi fish, or at least rare? I know tuna is ok to eat rare.
  16. are many of you employed in the computer field of some sort? do any of you have degrees in computer science? I myself am currently just a waiter, with no colledge education. I hope to get into home pc service, repair both hardware and software, and home networking.
  17. since it shows up in your device manager, you may be able to right-click on it and choose uninstall.
  18. it is easy to make xp boot first. you need to edit your file called /boot/grub/menu.lst . To show you how I will show you my file default 0 timeout 20 title=gentoo root (hd0,1) kernel (hd0,1)/bzImage root=/dev/hda5 title=ubuntu root (hd0,5) kernel (hd0,5)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-5-386 root=/dve/hda6 initrd (hd0,5)/boot/initrd.img-2.6.10-5-386 title=FreeBSD root (hd0,0,a) kernel /boot/loader noitice the first line that is labled default 0, this means it will boot the first OS in my list, which is gentoo. If I changed the line to default 1, this would boot ubuntu(the second in the list) firs

    Grrrrrr!

I am not very knowledgable in this area, i usually leave my system sounds off(my kids already make enough noise). in gnome there is an option to turn on sound server and system sounds(under desktop preferences), have you already done that? I am guessing system sounds are controlled by your WM, you may have better luck with kde. Sorry i do not have much to offer.
  20. maybe I am wrong about labeling it shoutcast. Below is one of the urls that works for me http://war.str3am.com:7080 is this even sa shoutcast url?
  21. it not a linux specific question, just more of a shoutcast question. I just happen to be running linux. I get the impression shoutcast does not play popular music, I may be wrong though.
  22. to be honest, I have hardly ever used it. I have a linux box witha program called freevo. it turns my tv into a media center. One of the features it has it web radio, I thought it was shoutcast(I guess I am not really sure). below is part one of the files it uses <?xml version="1.0" ?> <freevo> <audio title="Heavy Metal Radio"> <url>http://war.str3am.com:7080</url> <info> <description>HeavyMetalRadio.com - The Loudest Site On The Internet!!!</description> <link>http://www.heavymetalradio.com</link> <bi
  23. Do you guys use shoutcast to listemn to web radio. Are there any good urls that you listen to?
