  1. You sound like you want to give SP2 a try, why wait. Follow the instructions in G4's forums. Empty all temporary files you're comfortable with. Definitely clear Temporary Internet Files (IE). I'd also clear Firefox's Cache, C:\Temp, C:\WUTemp, and C:\Windows\Temp as best you can. Run Error Checking. Run Defrag. BACKUP (image style if available). TEST THE BACKUP! Turn off your anti-virus. Turn off your firewall(s). Turn off anything you don't need running. Create a manual System Restore point. Goto Windows Update manually and start the SP2 update, rather than let WU automatically dectect and in
  2. From reading threads in a bunch of different forums, it appears the Home version has more problems than the Pro version does. All my machines have Pro, and I haven't had any problems at all. My informal poll on the G4 Tech Support board is running about 3(no problem) to 1 (had problems) with 46 votes cast. Most of those votes were cast before Windows Update lit SP2 up for Pro users though. I'll leave it to you to decide if the odds sound good enough.
  3. I use Fast Reply in forums more often than the alternatives. I just wish it would do the "Replying to Snaxe Posted on Aug 26 2004, 09:30 PM" part for me (I'm lazy). It lets folks know who I'm "talking" to when several posts are made while I'm typing. A Reply button next to the Quote is what I'm proposing. It's the same code as Quote, just without copying the body of the post. Kinda like your "Fast Quote" idea too.
  4. If you're using Firefox, adding this to the file "userContent.css" will let you set your own color for visited links. That file is located in the chrome folder of your profile. (C:\Documents and Settings\YourAccount\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.###\chrome) It's a text file, create one if there isn't one already. This will override the settings on all web sites though. :visited { color: #f00 !important; //Red, #0f0 Green, #00f Blue, #ff0 yellow, and so on }
  5. What I'd really like to see the quote button do is have me highlight the text I want included, then when I click the Quote button it would copy the text out, add a header about the poster I'm referring to, and paste that text between the Q /Q braces. If no selection was made, it could default to the whole post, (although I'd just have it do a Replying To header with no quoted text). Just a wish...
  6. I know nothing about setting up boards like this, so I have no idea what the degree of difficulty is in doing this. I miss having a Reply button in each post that gave you a brief header like: Replying to BestTechie's post Aug 25, 2004 4:14 PM It made it easier to follow multiple trains of thought in a thread. While the Quote function does this, too often the entire post is quoted, not just the phrase of interest. After several levels of nested quotes, a simple "Me Too" is a screen or more long. That said, I do like the "Edit the Quote" way you've got this set up. It's a BIG improvement over m
