intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
There's one thing though at the beginning when I reboot the computer I get 2 options: F1 for IBM BIOS setup utility F12 to choose temporary boot device After I choose any of them, the laptop gives 2 beeps, then I get the following message in the screen still black ERROR 0271: Check date and time settings Press <F1> to Setup I have checked "Date/Time" and the following date is in there: System Date [01/01/1988] so I proceeded to change that date to today's date System Date [01/24/2008] but still no luck ... -

If you are referring to the clock in the "Date/Time" section option in the BIOs, it is running -

Actually I took out the battery and I was trying out without it -
I was given another old laptop , this time from my mother (she hasn't used it in more than a year I think) anyway she found it gathering dust in the closet and missing one part, and decided it to give to me (lucky/unlucky me?) anyway thing is I went into the bios to change the order to boot at start up, since there's no OS in it, I changed it to CD as the first in the boot screen list order, I saved changes and exit, however after rebooting the settings remain as default every time (floppy disk is the first one in the list as default) so I can't boot from a CD and I want to do this in order

Creating A Recovery Partition
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I wanted to create one for the laptop of the other thread, but since you recommend to do it in a separate hard drive, I guess I'm out of luck because even if I create a partition in my only drive it will be lost when the hard drive crashes, thanks for the help though. -
Is it possible to do this?, and if so, is it hard to do?

By the way, does anyone know how to adjust the settings for the screen? the laptop screen doesn't display the whole screen, only part of it, the way you would minimize a window partly but not completely and then place it exactly on the center. I tried control panel -> appearance and themes -> display -> settings but to no avail, somehow the whole screen isn't been used only part of it on the center.

Odd Changes In Computer?
intocomputing2 replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
No, there isn't any -
Today in the morning I turned on one of my desktop computers and I found some odd changes: -An external Iomega hard drive that I had connected on my computer, it used to show up as "letter G" in "my computer" now it shows up as "letter J" -"My Documents" folder was on this external hard drive, but I had a shorcut for it in my desktop, now everytime I click it I get an error message (probably because the letter for the external hard drive was renamed, but it's odd because it renamed itself I didn't do it) -I had one of the folders iin my external hard drive as a "Share Documents Folder" now it

After making my last post I decided to turn off the laptop and get something to eat, in spite that I couldn't connect to the web, the ethernet cable was still plugged in my laptop and my router, so I proceeded to turn off windows and I receive the typical message that you get when you haven't installed the updates from windowsupdate and you are about to turn off your computer "choose turn off now and your updates will be installed automatically" I thought it wouldn't matter since I still couldn't connect to the web so I chose that option and I saw the messages anouncing that the updates were i

the chipset driver was very easy to install, then I found a setup file in Drivers/WIN/Ethernet/APPS/SETUP/SETUPBD/W98-WS32/SETUPBD and I ran it, as soon as I double click it I got the window of "installing network drivers" but then the window disappear and nothing else showed up, so I'm not quite sure if it installed or not, in the device manager list under "Other devices" everything is in yellow question marks, these are the things that show up in yellow: Multimedia Audio Controller PCI Modem Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller Unknown Device Video Controller (VGA Compatible) by the wa

a detail I forgot to mention, when installing a driver I thought that I had to double click the driver I wanted to install first and then follow the directions on the Lenovo drivers page. However, once I double click it, the computer reboots and it skips the part where I have to type the comand lines in the DOS box and sometimes a step or two to finally leave me in the third step of the process, is it ok to install drivers in this way? or should I stop double clicking the icons of the drivers I want to install and instead use the comand line? thanks in advance for any relpy

I just installed SiSandra Lite (the others seem to be paid versions) I have to say it's much more explicit than CPU-Z, it has given me the serial number of the mainboard (that's the motherboard right? correct me if I'm wrong plz) and some info about chipsets: Chipset 1 Model and Logical/Chipset 1 Memory Banks, does anyone know which one of the two should I use to search for drivers?, it also mentioned that the Network Driver is not Enabled, how do you enable the network driver?
