  1. I just bought a BFG Nvidia 8800 GTS OC 320MB card off of Rubber Ducky yesterday, bought a new Enermax Noise Taker II EG701AX 600W Power supply to replace my 20 pin 450 today, and then realized that my case configuration as it is, would NOT FIT the new card!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gawd All Mighty...I just about PLOTZ'd!!

I knew my case innards were pretty packed in there tight, especially since I added another HDD, a floppy drive and a 2nd DVD burner, and that took a pile of mods to get it all in. But then I opened it up tonight and realized I just didn't have the room for this Monsterous new card I bought...and I started to sweat...just a bit.

So I took the box downstairs, figured out a new way to cofigure things, and then got to work while watching the latest Batman movie. By the end of the movie, I had room for the card and all I lost was my wireless card, which wasn't in use anyway, and some excess metal bits.

I had to move all my current PCI cards around, refit one hard drive by moving it back 3" and drilling new holes for it to screw into, and cut a bit off of the strut and box for the HDD and ODD rails. Moved some cabling around and had to install the Hauppage TV card with a slight twist cause it overlapped one of my HDD's that's screwed to the bottom of the case. The TV card had to move to the lowest slot to allow for the new card to fit beside the smaller Ethernet card, but that put it too low in the case and it hit the HDD down there, and it Can't be moved anywhere else!

The TV card just has a very slight twist at the upper part and I had to install a plastic washer between the 2 of them so that metal or electrical parts don't touch in any way.

So by the time the movie ended, I had the thing back together, room for the new card to fit BARELY, and it's all back together until my new card & Power supply arrives, and then it's back inside for more fun & games!! Re-cableing everything to the new PSU again is gonna be allot of fun...I just put in this 450W a month ago. Oh well

    Doncha just LOVE computers!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ;)

  2. "Catch you"...doing what exactly??

I'm not sure I like the sounds of that young man, are you making little tents in bed again..

And I'm not sure I want to watch as you forget that you're streaming live and come walking in just out of the shower, and drop the towel...nope..pretty sure I don't wanna Catch That!

    ;)

heheh...I'll see if I can remember to "Catch You" someday.

  3. Plot was a bit thin, and the character development needed more work, but overall I think the ending had us all on the edges of our seats!!

    I give it a 3.5 out of 5

Now, I don't think this is Sequel Material, so let's not see any B-Grade sequels made out of this movie please...(Hello Spidey 3)

  4. Yah, hope Pete's OK too.

We had 3 Tornado watches last week as a really powerful bunch of systems came thru back to back. Tornado's hit south and east of us but we just got one Torrential downpouring is all..

I guess there's no more questioning this Global Warming stuff anymore is there. The weather patterns have changed drastically all over, and much faster than they ever predicted it could. Now we have to see if we can slow it down so our kid's kids don't grow up in a giant Snowball of a planet! The tipping point is very close and it won't take much to drive it over the edge. We were only lucky that the last Ice Age didn't engulf the entire planet and be permanent as well, it was a bit of good fortune that saved the planet that time, but I don't think we'll be so lucky this time.

  5. Oh dang...I gotta break my No More Birthdays Posts rule for this idiot....er...fella Canuckster!

    Happy B-Day TK!!

I remember back when he was just a lil feller, spammin my Hotmail throw-away account, and I wrote back with a "Who the $%#@ are U?" kinda deal...LOL!!

My, we sure have come a long way since then eh TK!!

    Take Care Bud!

  6. Geez Ducky...that is the exact card I've been trying to get HP to send me to replace the underpowered Intel 945G chipset onboard graphics in my machine. This 945g was poorly engineered as the graphics solution for a Media Center TV machine and I've received well over 1000 errors in 3 months concerning how it's being "Overutilized" while it's basically doing nothing but TV on a 20" PC monitor, an open web browser and email client...thats "Overutlized"??

I've actually raised quite a stink at HP and have been in contact with the CEO of Support Relations, and all my tests and errors proving my point have been sent to the R&D team for analysis....but I still haven't heard anything back on my proposal for fixing this thing.

I offered to pay $150 of the cost of an Nvidia 8800 GTS PCI-E card to replace the failing graphics in here, they ship, I'll install, but the last contact was kinda round-about on that issue. If they don't send it, I'll be getting one anyway...sooooo.....

    I take it that's $275 USD?

I'm gonna PM you with an offer I think.

  7. Ah...those were the days!!

I used to take apart everything I could lay my hands on, just to see how it worked and what the insides looked like. My Dad nearly killed me many times because I wasn't old enough to know how to put it all back together again, but nowadays I can rip apart and rebuild a 327 in an afternoon, I can mess around inside & mod my computer to no end confidently, and I can fix just about anything that stops working...as long as the motor or whatever is still good and even then I'll put in a new one if it isn't more expensive than getting a brand new something or other....yep, it paid off in spades! My hands are Tools and I can build whatever I want and do it well, and all because I used them as a kid and taught them how to be that way.

Never discourage your kids from tinkering, it builds confidence. Never force your kids to think like you do...it just doesn't work that way, you're an adult...they're kids.

Yah...those were the days alright. Leave the house at sunrise, bolt back home for a quick lunch then off again till the streetlights came on...

My bike and my baseball glove were constant companions, and we never lacked for things to do, we found things to do as we went along exploring the world from the back of a two wheeler, with a banana seat and big handlebars....

  8. Actually, they are required by Law to maintain and test the sprinkler systems in multi unit apartments and the like. Basically because of what USED to happen, they were left to rot out and when they were really needed they didn't work and people died as a result.

Fire Bylaws are very strict now, and we enforce them religously these days. Too many people died needlessly from poorly maintained sprinklers, alarms, water closet hoses...etc, so a clamp down was really badly needed. It never used to be law to do these things, it was "Recommended" but not enforced but nowadays we'll fine businesses for not even having their wall mounted extingiushers checked bi-annually, and the message is working. People and businesses are taking Fire Safety seriously now...not like they never should have, but before if you didn't Force many to do it, it didn't get done.

Fire is probably the most deadly of accidental (or purposeful) occurences, and yet it was never taken seriously until just the last few decades! Since the 80's, we have aggressively campaigned for tougher City Bylaws first, then National laws afterwards, and it has probably saved thousands of lives in the last 20 years. Now even regular folk know when something isn't being maintained properly and we get allot of notifications this way, whereas it never used to be reported because people didn't know better. Something as simple as a Bi-annual fire alarm test in an apartment building, and having people know where exits and extinguishers are located in the buildings, has probably saved more lives then we can estimate.

We aggressivly check rental properties in Regina, for maintained fire alarms. It's amazing how often we find the batteries have been pulled from them becuase they go off when you burn toast. But what would you rather have...a small annoyance once in awhile, or an alarm that will save your life when something goes wrong...

    I know my answer...what's yours.

This has been a Public Safety Announcement, brought to you by your friendly BestTechie.net Fire Safety Brigade.

  9. Where did you purchase this new machine?

Is it an OEM (Dell, Gateway, HP) or from a local computer shop?

That is definitely not normal behavior and I think it's because something in the BIOS setup is incorrect and it's having to reset to a different setting to compensate. Also, your monitor does not "boot up", it simply recieves a signal when the graphics driver initializes.

Your RAM usage with XP is normal, XP doesn't utilize the extra RAM that is not alloted to running programs and services like Vista does with SuperFetch, so actually a low RAM usage in XP is a good thing, as long as the system recognizes the entire amount of installed RAM.

  10. Hey Hitest

Ya, most of the western most interior sections are flooding now, and with so much snowpack still on the mountains, it ain't over yet unfortunately. I haven't seen you guys hit this hard by floods in some time, probably since I lived in Whistler in 78 or so.

Here's hoping the weather stays cool for awhile yet so the waters can recede before the main snowpack melts, cause if it warms up in the higher altitudes too soon....well, you know what'll happen...

Heheh...about the only thing we DON"T get here on the prairies, is Hurricanes. Oh...maybe Avalanches are rare too, our ski slopes aren't quite large enough out here I guess, but we do get slides in the vallies...just a tad smaller than Frank's (Canadian's will get that one), and the entire province is hardly "Flat". Tornado's, flooding, heavy snows in winter, sweltering heat in summer, huge grass & forest fires, and of course the "Infamous" Prarie Winds. A light breeze here can blow your dog into the next town, a strong gust will blow you there too...

Just watched a show where they chose the 7 Wonders of Canada, and the Prairie Skies was one of them, no arguments here. They can be breathtaking when the entire sky is full of Northern Lights and the visible sky is endless. Sight to behold I tell ya, everyone has to see something that beautiful at least once in their lives, and we get it all year round. And with so many natural wonders up here, to have our skies chosen as one of the top 7 is rather humbling I think....of course seeing a prairie sunset is even more humbling. Oh...I'm getting off subject here ;)

Well George, you guys stay safe over there and I'm keeping watch on the news about how things are doing out west lately. Let's hope that after the floods that the forest fires will be low this season. Last couple of years have been devastating for allot of towns out there.

You guys take care and if you need any Lettuce, just lemme know and I'll ship some over. I know a guy who knows a guy who's got a plane, and I can still skydive....

  11. Hello Members & Guests!

I know how hard it can be to find those settings you need with a new Operating System, and especially so when it's as different as Vista is!!

So, I've decided to post this thread so anyone who's having trouble Finding something in Vista, has a place to ask for help in finding it, and one of us (or all of us) will do our best'est to Find that setting/spot for you, and post it here.

If it's a really good one, we'll probably turn it into a Tip Post as well, so your questions can help as many folks as possible later on.

So please, if you're having trouble finding something, or don't know if something can even be done in Vista still, post you question into this thread and we'll get right on it for you!!

    Thanx!

  12. Same here Mark, and yes I have to agree JD, there were some stinkers even from the old legends of SNL for sure, but it was all so cutting edge and a new brand of comedy back then, and that group pulled it off with style!

Bring on the Monty Python too!!

  13. Yah...just before our Victoria Day long weekend a few weeks ago, our prices went from $0.95 a Litre to $1.24 a litre!!!

Now you tell me that this was not Price Fixing at it's most BLATANT!!!

And it happens just before every single long weekend all spring, summer and fall. What a crime this is, if we had a business and we treated our customers like that all the time...just how long do you think we'd STAY in Business???

    Not very long

  14. I gotta agree snyper...I just don't understand this whole Anime fad myself. It's basically cartoons isn't it, except they make the girls look like...ummm...Girls, but it's still just animation...

I think they're guy's too Honda Boy, and I'll admit that they are good dancers, probably professional or semi-pro I would say from the quality of their movements.

And JDoors...Yes, I've seen the (Blarfff) Macarena in all it's ridiculous splendor, and the "Bird Dance" and any form of "Line Dancing", and even Disco..which I have to admit to doing myself once or twice..(but only cause ALL the girls were on the dance floor), and I just may still stand by my first comment (maybe).

    ;)

  15. Oh Honda_Boy...you neede to watch SNL wayyyyyy back in the day, with the very first Original cast members. THAT was comedy I tell ya...Belushi Ackroyd, Curtin, Chase...man those were the good ole days of SNL.
