Very strange, I plugged in a USB stick to install some software today and the software ran and installed without any problems. To my surprise a few minutes later the USB stick looked empty (nothing was inside, no files, folders) But when I go to its properties it still sees the used space and how much I have left (the old amount). Maybe theres a chance my files are still there? What should I do?

To tell the truth the OCZ is a great choice, I have a thermaltake and its noisy, if you don't mind the noise (which considering your going to have 3 120mm fans + 2 HDD + 1 200mm fan noise is not an issue) then I would suggest the thermaltake. Hope that helps

Comodo Firewall Pro looks great, I guess it will let me choose which applications are allowed to communicate outbound/inbound via internet and trusted groups?
-
For the last year I've been using Sunbelts personal firewall (Kerio) Its been very useful but it crashes 2 times out of 3 on windows start up its the latest version as well (free edition). I use it because I can track and dictate inbound and outbound connections, scan and block network traffic recognized attacks, and make sure certain apps don't control other apps. I recently formated the PC and... I'm using XP Pro an SP2 I have the latest updates and would like to know if there are any alternatives to my current firewall, free preferably (not zone alarm plz) Thank You for your kind replies.

Watch Content On T.v From Pc?
X-Cannon replied to X-Cannon's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
That is what I was thinking but then why does something like the Media Centre PC even exist? P.S. What specs would I need for the PC if I was to go that route? P4 3 GHz, ATI Radeon 9550 1 GB RAM 400MHz enough? -
Hi, I'm looking for a device that will allow me to watch downloaded content on my big screen T.V in the living room, The TakeTV by ScanDisk is great but 8 GB is not enough. Media Centre PCs are great but I have no idea where to start (want to build my own pc and use it with software like MythTV or Media Centre software) what are my options, I would like to stream if I can or store it and watch/listen to my content. Now the content would include ripped DVDs, music, pictures etc... I believe my 100Mb connection would be sufficient. Thanks in Advance for the replies.

Onboard Graphics, Cant See Anything
X-Cannon replied to X-Cannon's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
DOH, I didn't pay any attention to that. I think I will go with the experts on this one (You guys) replace the mobo and install XP. A friend has a HP XP CD and I have a serial number for SP2 so it should all work out. P.S. I should pay no more then $50 for the mobo right...It's pretty old! -
There should be a cache for Office on the C:\MSOcache...There is for me anyway I have both 2003 and 2007, You may have deleted the cache by accident. Also they are hidden files if you want to access them I believe you know how already

I can use basically everything, except the mobo. Should I take it to a comp shop? For an expert to look over? -

I have tried different PCI slots, There are no beeps on POST, Yes, Monitor is powered up and tried 2 other (just in case ) The graphics card I put in (PCI) works I've tried in on a different comp. Running out of options... -
I just bought a second hand computer to give to my younger brother for school, Its an HP P4. It has on-board graphics and I cannot see anything, I've tried a PCI card which I know works and I still cant get a signal. I have reset the CMOS by taking the battery out then back in again...still nothing. So I can't see anything, therefore I can't access the BIOS. What should I do?

VLC does have its own icon when its set as the default app for mp3. etc...Everything else is ok just the dang icon, its really annoying.
-
For folders?
-
Changed it back to Winamp and the icons are the same, when changed back to VLC still the same icons. No other options but to reinstall Winamp?
-
Tried it and rebooted just in case and the files icons are still the same. Double click and it works just fine opening VLC and playing them, just the icons wont change for some weird reason.
-
I have tried that already and I disabled the Winamp agent the day I installed Winamp.
-
I'm trying to play all my mp3s with VLC instead of Winamp it will play with VLC when clicked on but like I said the icon still looks like a Winamp icon, tried everything the preferences on both of them the tweak ui, file type association. Whats left uninstalling Winamp? I don't want to do that. Not a start up issue, I don't think checked the start up in msconfig.
-
Folder Options is fine, tried TweatUI's repair and it messed up my icon positions other then that did nothing...Any other suggestions?
-
Thats what I did, but the icon stays the same as if it were associated the with previous program.
-
Stupid question, I want certain file types to be associated with a program so I right click>Open with>Choose Program and choose what program I want and check always choose the selected. Ok now when I click it it will goto that new program but the icon stays the same even after a reboot. How can I change this without changing each icon individually? And without uninstalling the old program which was initially associated with the file type? Sorry I made it sound convoluted :-P

I'm attending school an will be purchasing a laptop soon and was just wondering should I be worried about someone looking at my traffic (other then the school admins of course)? I know for a fact that when it comes to wireless Wireshark and Ettercap can be used to find passwords and monitor someone else's traffic. as a side note can anyone recommend any java learning ebooks or tools?
