slippybippy
Thursday May 11, 2006 12:41 PM (NEW!) I have an AMD Atlon 2000+ proc with 512MB Ram, Windows XP Pro, 60 GigHD.My ECS K7SEM motherboard was smoking. I bought a replacement for it from ebay, the ECS K7SOM+ board. I had to order new RAM, PC3200, 2 X 256MB = 512MB total. When I turn on the computer, there is no monitor signal detected from the board.I hear the HD sounds, which sound normal. There is power to everything. What canI do? Is the MB defective? Does the new board come with a video card installed on it?I checked my old board, and there is nothing plugged into it. (Possible video card)Allan Edited May 12, 2006 by slippybippy
jimras
So how was the monitor hooked up on the old board? You probably had a video card of some sort....Didn't you put that onto the new motherboard?most faster computers today don't rely on 'onboard' video
slippybippy
The motherboard has the monitor jack on it as well as all the other jacks. I assumed I didn't need one. The old one had it on the board also. Edited May 12, 2006 by slippybippy

TheTerrorist_75
Did you install the motherboard drivers from it's disk? If the hard drive had XP installed on it previously did you do a repair or fresh install?
shanenin
Does the new board come with a video card installed on it?if it has a vga port(the port you plug the moniter into), it should have video built in. My gut says the board is badjust another thought. Some motherboards need to have the FSB(front side bus) set manually. I have had an athlon xp like yours set to 333(166)mhz, it needed to be set at 266(133). That would not allow the machine to even boot to the bios screen; it apeared like the video was not working. Depending on how your board works, you may just be able to reset the cmos, this should change the FSB speed to the lowest setting it is able to do (after getting in to the bios you can change it to the correct speed). You may also have a jumper on the board that needs to be set, to manually change the FSB. Edited May 12, 2006 by shanenin

martymas
do you know if it is onboard or slot video card? if it is a card first make sure it is recognised in device manager as another poster suggestedand try and get the best driver available. have a look at the monitor v-card connection and make sure the connection is secure also take a look at the male connection and see if there are any bent or broken pinsthis can play havoc with your pics does your monitor say no sognalor when it is booted is there a black screennormally with a card when you reboot windows finds the driveri cannot speak for onboardmarty
