Screwed By Gnc.

I bought a GNC gold card last fall. With it I recieved a free subscription to "Physical Magazine", which GNC sponsored. While walking past a GNC store today, I realized I hadn't recieved the magazine in a couple months. So, I went in and asked one of the sales reps. about it, and he said GNC no longer sponserd the magazine, so gold card members no longer got it for free.

Now, when I paid for the card, one of the benefits was that I got a FREE subscription to Physical! I feel I have been ripped off. I e-mailed GNC, but of course have gotten no response. I plan on calling them either tomorow or Monday.

Does anyone else here have a GNC gold card, and feel you to have been screwed?

I stopped my subscription to Maxim because of the way they treated their subscribers also.

When it first started coming out it was a very funny mag and I really enjoyed it, so I subscribed for a yearly thing. But I noticed that the magazine when being sold off the shelf, contained extra items like calanders and other neat stuff that I wasn't getting.

So I called Maxim and asked why I wasn't getting all these "Extra's" that people who bought them off the shelf were getting, and they told me I had to PAY if I wanted to get these items...

That really ticked me off, I mean...the subscribers are the ones who make sure that their bills get paid every month, and they wanted us to pay extra for these things that they're giving away to folks who maybe only buy 3 or 4 mags a year.

What's with that eh!!!

So I told the person from Maxim.."Like...the subscribers should be getting these extras also, and at no cost too. If it weren't for us subscribers, you guys wouldn't be in business at all", but the reply was less than satisfying...so I quit my subscription right then and there....jerks.

Too bad to, it was a pretty good mag when it first came out, but I've noticed that it's gone downhill over the last few years. As it got more popular, they got more commercialised and the writing started to become just like every other mag out there, and lost it's edgy style that made it so good in the first place.

Ok....why was I replying here again???...Oh yah...No I don't have a GNC card, but I feel for ya dude ;)

Give em Hell!!

One of the things I have noticed over the year is that free subscriptions rarely continue for the duration. I had free one year subscriptions to PC magazine and a few others. I doubt I got over half the issues. But since I did not pay anything to get them , I didn't complain.

However, I do agree with you that you should let them know how you feel both via email and snail mail. And make it clear that you feel that you have been treated unfairly and that you did not recieve the offer you thought you were getting . Make it clear that you feel you are due some compensation since this was your primary reason for the purchase. Make it clear that you hope that this is a mistake as you would hate to have to stop doing business with their company and cancel your membership and take your business to one of their competitors after such a long and happy relationship.

I have found this attitude very useful when dealing with refused rebate offers. Once you make it clear that you would hate to come to the conclusion that you were deliberately decieved and misled by their offer and were not provided with the product which their representative had assured you would be provided at the stated cost, but would much prefer to find out that this was a mistake and oversight and that once they were aware of it it would be corrected it very frequently will be.

PS . I just signed up for a subscription to the local paper since they offered me 26 weeks of seven days a week for $26 total ($1 a week for a paper every day is not a bad deal ). I just wonder how that will turn out. Last time I subscribed , eventually I was the only one on the block getting delivery. It frequently was not delivered. Whenever I called in, the delivery person insisted it had been delivered and it must have been stolen and wouldn't I rather have a credit than have a paper run out ? When I bluffed that I had checked my security cam tapes and they had never even driven by , the result was that the delivery person would open my screen door at 430am and place it between the doors, pound on the front door and ring the bell. Needless to say I canceled my subscription . But it has been a year; maybe they have a new delivery person and I see a couple other folks on the block get it too so even if I just get a sunday paper out of it (or two weekdays) it is worth the price. Then I will cancel when the six months are up.

This thread reminded me to call them today.

They basicly told me their was no way I was going to get Physical Mag. for free, or any compensation for it.

Oh well, thats alright. I no longer live near a GNC anyway. I guess Ill have to get my low quality, yet high priced supplements elsewhere. But damn, im going to miss those pushy, uneducated sales people working on commision. I guess ill have to find a brick wall to talk to. (probably smarter)

I guess I could have talked to a manager, but honestly the magazine sucked. THe best parts were the GNC ads, which I generaly had to take with me to the GNC store to prove that they werent giving me the discount they advertised. (anyone see a pattern?)

HA! Well, that's GNC for ya: Generaly Nothing but Crap.

Bubba, you ought to look into Puritans Pride They have the greatest vitamins I've found. And their specials are often and deeply discounted. (buy 2, get 3 free) Been using the products for over 6 years via a 1-800 and catalog, then the net... The Green Source multi vitamin is so full of suppliments that they can barely fit it all on the lable.

I once got mildly screwed by IBM. I purchased a copy of IBM Anti-virus back in the days of Windows 95 and it said on the box "lifetime updates."

Of course after about six months IBM pulled the plug and informed me that they were getting out of the anti-virus business and that they would no longer be providing on-line updates. IBM invited me to purchase a copy of Norton AV.

After a few terse e-mails and one polite phone call to IBM I got what I wanted, a free copy of Norton Anti virus.

I pointed out to IBM that their statement "lifetime updates" was misleading and false advertising. IBM did not agree with my point of view..............but they did send me Norton:-)
