X-Cannon
my IBM 1Ghz pc is not showing the HD I tried to install Ubuntu and it said it was there but when I reset the PC it says PXE-E61 "Media Test Failure, check cable" So I'm think that that means the HD, cause the Ubuntu install went perfect its just the Bios I think not recognizing the HD, I cant even press del or F8 wont do anything. What do you think? TheTerrorist_75
Format the drive and start over. Sounds like you ended up with a bad install. Make sure to set the Bios at it's default setting before reinstalling. Also check the IDE cable.
shanenin
"Media Test Failure, check cable"that sounds like an error you may get if the cdrom is not reading the ubuntu disc properly. Did you remove the disk before rebooting?
X-Cannon
checked the IDE cable it was fine, I cant get into the BIOS if I press F8/del nothing appears and I have formated it with DBAN. HELP!!
shanenin
1. some computers use F1, or F2 to get into the bios.2. did you remove the ubuntu cd before reooting?
jcl
PXE is the firmware network boot facility. The E61 error is produced by the network card. The most probable explanation is that the BIOS can't find any bootable devices and is falling through to the network boot. If that's the case you can either boot off a Linux live CD (the Ubuntu install disc, maybe) and use fdisk to set a bootable partition or you can reinstall. It's also possible that HDD failed or the BIOS is FUBARed. jcl
FUBAR"ed"F'ed Up Beyond All Reason "ed"Just messing aroundThat was the generalized 'FUBAR': tenseless and both nouned and verbed. The increased expressiveness is worth the incompatibility. Edited February 5, 2006 by jcl
