shanenin
I want to have a laptop dvd-rom drive on hand if I get a customer who needs a replacement. Will the drives labled "slim" universally fit most laptops?
TheTerrorist_75
Short answer. No.
HPoirot36
Long answer...in almost every case,no. Its a matter of connections and space. Most laptops have propriotary drives. IN cases where the laptop is used as a desktop replacement, I would suggest ( to your customer) an external DVD combo drive. Watch DVDs and Burn....they are cheap enough now. shanenin
harddrives are universal, correct?
HPoirot36
Laptop Hard drives are a different size than regular desktop hard drives. As far as I know, they are universal.
Mistabigshot
If you have the right connector, and your system can handle the size, then yes HDs in desktops are universal.
shanenin
I found this tutorial. It seems that you can make most drives work with the caddy of the drive you are replacinghttp://secondbyte.com.au/ChangeCaddy/ChangeCaddy.htm
