How To Transfer Files In A Network.

Recommended Posts

Ok It's new WiFi Card for Christmas has allowed me to finally put my wireless router to good use. Well there's a bunch of crap on my main system I'd like to have on my room computer too, but I'm sick of CD-RW's and I sure ain't downloadin all that crap a second time. So how can I do this? I figure it'd be a program in system tools but I don't see anything. Thanks for any help.

Also do WiFi cards cause Interference in computer speakers or is all this noise which I have heard at school from the TV's when people are recieving calls or text messages my brothers cell phone ringin off the hook. So far 3 times to day while the speakers are on have I heard this.

Use the network setup wizard in my network places it should guide you through it (its very straight forward). After using that restart the computers if not promted to, i find it avoids any complections, when they boot up again go to my network places and you should see a shared folder one for each computer that u can drag and drop files to, erase edit, do whatever. To answer you other question, Wi-fi works at two typical frequencies, 802.11 G and B work at about 2.4 GHZ actual frequency goes out to a longer decimal but as a rule of thumb 1-11 channels work at about 2.4 GHZ Wi-Fi 802.11 A works at 5GHZ which was designed to avoid interfearance. The common interfearance you'll have with 2.4 GHZ is typically your cordless phone if you do experiance this change the router/access points channel. As far as cell phones they work at 800/1600MHZ and i forget the rest of the frequencies which cause interfearance with your spearkers, why? i couldn't tell you. To avoid this there is a way to shield your cable dont honestly know why someone with a lot more knowledge about electronics s/ connections, i know its very annoying to listen to the beep beep from your speakers.

I just realized my cell phone was turned on and sittin right next to the speakers. It's been known to cause interference for no apparent reason. whether recieving calls or not it just interferes. piece of junk. oh well it's still better than my back-up.

Thanks for lettin me know what to do. i figured it was something to do with networked folders or drives. Thanks! This'll make sharing files a breeze.

hmm

your cell is GSM yes (or sprint, PCS AKA sprint screwed up GSM standard) ... in any case a cell phone tranmits and recives information from the local cell tower.. its your speakers that SUCK if they recive this signal and bost it.

Actually they dont suck. This is quite a big issue, any non sheilded wire will act like an antenna, including speaker cable... so unless your up their with being able to afford specialist equipment along with $5/meter for sheilded cable, on a 5.1 surround sound system, then everybody has this problem.

actually all our TV's at school recieve interfrence every time a call or text message goes through. that's how a bunch of people have had their phones taken up and gotten staurday schools. I think any of my multiple sets of speakers would recieve this interference but these speakers are 5 years old but they are good for 2.0 speakers. They're Boston Acoustics. But still this particular cell phone has been known to cause more interference wit things than our other phones. Don't know why it just does. I bought it used for 10 bucks but ithad MP3 ringtones and a camera, my other had a colr screen and polyphonic (Midi) rings and that was about it.

I always knew spending $1000 on my hometheater cables would pay off some day some how. I looked at them this morning they all say shielded on them :)

so that whole shielding thing explains why my hometheater doesnt pick up the signals my HDMI, speaker cables, RCA cables, all of them cost about $1200 total.

OK prob the Sidewinder refuses to create a network. Moo (the gateway) will create one no probs. But even though I have created it the Sidewinder won't add it. I've gone through the network setup thing like 5 times on the sidewinder but it it doesn't show anything in my network places. When I created the thing on Moo it would show the network in network places on it.

ok try changing the network name... let me know what happends. "Go get me $20 in cables and 5 rolls of tin-foil - i'll cover them REAL NICE!" - brings back good memories of how we fix cars in auto shop.

Whenever I started my build on my current PC I warmed up the soldering iron and hot glue gun before I even started b/c I knew I would break a few things

Turns out I only busted two clips on my case front panel
