KeithLDick
My Daughter has an old HP around 450Mhz with very little ram... (forgot to check how much)..This thing is running WinME and is a total dog, plus her son keeps playing with it and messing it up and she has no clue about computers so it's always doing something weird..I was thinking of just Totally Wiping the hard drive and put 2000 on it for her.. I'm wondering if 2000 will have the onboard video & sound drivers or will I have to download them from HP?...I'll run Everest on it 1st to see what I need just in case....Any opinions????.... I also have my old copy of Win98SE that I no longer use..I'm really hoping she will buy a new one after christmas but I doubt it.. hahaha
TheTerrorist_75
If it has limited memory you may be better off putting Win98SE on it. HP may not have the drivers for that old of a PC. You will need to search for them online.
KeithLDick
Thanks TT....I was just looking at my junk computers and I have a 450 with 2000 already on it that's in pretty good shape.I may just throw a modem in it and give her that...

paxman356
I had WinXP running on an old Dell 400MHz P2. It only had 256MB ram, and while slow, got the job done. Before XP, I had Win2000 pro on it, and it worked as good. Maybe a little faster. It caught all the drivers I needed for it, though. Good luck.
KeithLDick
And the boy won't keep playing with that now and screwing it up?Of course he will, but atleast I can lock somethings out so he can't keep deleting Items...I was looking at DELLS site and I can get her a decent machine that will do the job for $249...I might just do that instead...
