hi team ive run into a problem.

for some time now ive tried to install the recovery console

but each time i type the reqired path path.

i get the message.

your cd is an older version than the one on your sys

i presume this is because of the up dates and sp2

is there some way round this

thanks

Hey Marty,

Alright, let's see. First off, you don't install the recovery console perse, it's something you can get to by booting to your Windows Disk. Can you answer some of these questions?

1. What OS are you running? What service pack? (if any)

2. What Windows OS Disk are you booting to?

3. What are you trying to do from the recovery console?

4. What is the exact message you get? Also, what command are you typing into the recovery console?

Post back with the answers to those questions, that way it'll be easier to help you.

hi jeff to answer your Q'S

[1] xppro 64bit service pack sp2

[2] insert the xp disk

[3]type the line c:/i386\winnit32.exe\cmdcons

[4]the reply i get is your cd version is older than the version on your sys

press cancel to exit..

i presume this is because of all the updates.

i read once where pete posted and said you need

to slipstream the overall version of sp2.

but this takes 8 hrs to load by dialup

i have the recovery console on a bart pe ultimate disk

but it is not transferable to my hdd.

i really like to experiment.

this morning i installed windows support tools .

i remember once you said at techtv c.f.h

you need to experiment to learn

so ive followed your rule

Hi Marty

You can also create your own slipstreamed SP2 CD, and eliminate the need to d'load SP2 updates ever again, and take care of this prob too.

Its made with the exact same file you d'loaded for this already, so you'll be halfway there right away.

Slipstream SP2

I'm going to write a "dumbed-down" version of this procedure for our Tutorials section soon, for our n00bies to use. You should have no prob following the link's advice tho buddy.

I made a couple of slipstreamed XP SP2 CD's already, and I'm so glad I did, it saves tons of time if I reinstall and its also better for when SFC is needed.

Thats a great article there ahulett!

Looks like it should work great for short term, I'm gonna get Marty to make an SP2 CD still if it kills me, for his long-term needs.

Chappy, I'm going to try this to see if I can FINALLY get SP2 onto my computer. You can see my problems in other posts in this forum.

I've got a spare HD to fiddle around with and if I can get it to work, I'll transfer all my stuff to the 'new' drive and FINALLY be up to date.

I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Thanks.............jim
