Chappy
Gzip is a compression format that speads up forum page loads in large forums. It means that the pages are stored on the server in a compressed state, so that the members have better performance in loading pages.Saves bandwidth and CPU cycles. fubz
Actually Gzip doesnt store the pages, it just compresses them up before it sends the data to your browser and then your browser decompresses it. It saves bandwith, and it doesnt speed it up, it actually slows it by a second.
Martint
So, It's a compressing utility for large forums and large websites?
fubz
or small websites and small forums. It just conserves bandwith, thats all. It easily shrinks the 30kb files to a few kbs. Very useful for people on dialup.
