TheTerrorist_75
With the computer turned off take the cover off and touch any metal part of the case to discharge any static electricity from your body. Reach over and unplug the computer from the wall outlet.

Pete_C
Depends on the time of year and humidity as well as case design. Most of the time, like TT says; just discharging yourself to the metal case which is grounded through its cord and then unplugging it is sufficient. When it is especially dry (winter) or when there is not an easy to access metal case (laptop for example, or case coated with sound deadening rubber ) I do prefer the security of a grounding strap to ensure that I am at the same potential as the computer and the ram can likewise seep off to me so it does not discharge through the contacts. TheTerrorist_75
You don't want to be working on the inside of a computer case while standing on carpet with socks on your feet, especially in a cold climate when there is no humidity. In those conditions I recommend using a ground strap.
