bobgo2728
have a Cannon MP160 and it is hooked into my ibook g4. I have setup printer sharing on OS X 10.5 but Vista Ultimate is not seeing it.What is the deal?
Pete_C
Have you disabled firewalls? Are they on the same network? Same workgroup? One more reason I prefer a network ready printer that hooks up to your router either wired or wirelessly.
shanenin
when I setup a shared printer on a mac with my XP and Vista machine, I used Bonjour. It includes a printer sharing utility, that configures printer sharing automatically. It works really smoothedit added later//you first have to enable printer sharing on the mac. Then run "bonjour for windows" and it will configure the connection to the mac printer.
bobgo2728
OK I am trying to set it up using bojour and it is not working. I am getting an error. I get all the way to the end and then I get a box that says, "you do not have sufficent access to your computer to connect to this selected printer."
shanenin
are you sure printer sharing is enabled on the mac?
bobgo2728
yes. I clicked on the buttons and it says it is on in OS X 10.5 Lep. Edited May 8, 2009 by Buddy Holly
shanenin
Have you tried installing while running with an admin account with Vista?
bobgo2728
Yep! That comes with those errors too. All I do is right click on the program and choose run as admin and click continue or what ever to run as an admin. Edited May 8, 2009 by Buddy Holly
shanenin
That probably gives you the same privileges, but just to be sure try logging in as your admin to run it
bobgo2728
I am logged in as the admin. Not sure what more I need to do
shanenin
I was not sure if running a program as admin was the same as logging in as an admin then running it. I am at a loss to why you are having issues.
bobgo2728
Because when I look at my user accounts in windows, it says Bob (Administrator) so that would mean I am an admin no?
shanenin
yep, you are running as a full admin. Just for kicks, do you have an xp machine to see if you can get that to network? That would rule out the mac as being the issue.
bobgo2728
Nope no other XP machines or Vista or what ever. I went into the firewall and allowed Bojour to connect through so it should be working. Also I know things work since mac mini sees the printer just fine and connects. So I am thinking something is not working right in Windows to the mac and vice versa. I hope there is no need to turn on file sharing on ibook as that is something I never need or want. Pete_C
Have you installed the windows drivers for the printer on the windows machine? Reverse issue discussed herehttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT1404http://www.mac-connect.com/http://www.mac-connect.com/printer_sharing_win.php
iccaros
the issues I have found is Windows dose not understand CUPS.. so Apple came out with bonjour . I also found that you must install http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/appl...forwindows.htmlon the windows machine..
bobgo2728
I have java already installed before I installed bonjour! So what to do now is up in the air.
