d14blo
hey this dell dimension e510 wont start up after shutdown. there will be a orange led blinking in the front side. ive read on google and came up with people having similar problem. but ive checked everything that they figured out. and it still doesnt work. It only works when i remove the Cmos battery. unplug the powercord for a couple of minutes. then plug it back in without the cmos battery. ive tried a new cmos battery but it still doesnt work. any suggeestions? shanenin
With about a 99% certainty it is either the power supply or the motherboard. I would try a new power supply(you can order a cheap one for $20 shipped) and see if that fixes it. If that does not solve the problem, you probably have a mother board that is going bad.this power supply is just a cheapy, but I have had really good luck using them in my shop. As far as I know I have not had one fail on me yet. I have easily used 20 of themhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817152019Depending on that dell case, you may have to mod it slightly(very unlikely), but more then likely it will be a perfect fit. Even if it does not fit perfect, you can still use it to test the system.

TymeKyller
Howdy Barb!!How are you doing my friend? Hope all is going well with you! It's been a while.. o/pI agree with the rest, chances are it's the p/s.I just wanted to add...Just because you have a Dell you don't have to get a Dell power supply, check around your local shops, they may have some good deals on a 300W power supply (which will generally be fine in most none high performance computers). If you purchase things online here is a good place I use a lot and find them very good.http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=1077 Edited January 24, 2009 by TymeKyller

shanenin
Thanks, those are handy things to know.
Pete_C
Yep. My recommendation is if your computer has this sort of troubleshooting feature it is well worth locating the correct guide ahead of time and printing it out to keep in your "important papers" folder (with the reciepts, license and product keys , install cds etc). In the old days, I just would write this info on the inside of the case with a sharpie (still a good idea) but these days I like taking a binder notebook with cd inserts and those plastic page protector inserts so you have it when you need it. d14blo
thanks guys the powersupply was the problem. i bought RAIDMAX RX-380K 380W and installed it and it works fine now. the only thing is that i still receive this messege:Power Surge in hub portA USB device has exceeded the power limits of it's hub port. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.but ive searched around and there doesnt seem to be a fix to it. unless one of you knows how to fix it. Pete_C
Basically means one of your USB devices needs more power than the USB traces on your motherboard can supply. You either need to add a powered hub with external transformer or get a USB PCI expansion card to add more ports and get the type with a power adapter (usually like the floppy drive power connector but could be a hard drive molex connector)
