rv56
Options for updating virus definitions in Norton products: LiveUpdate virus definitions for Norton 2008 and newer are updated 3 times a day. LiveUpdate virus definitions for Norton 2006 and 2007 products are updated daily. LiveUpdate virus definitions for Norton 2005 and earlier products are updated weekly.http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/share...005092309590213Note added February 15, 2009Recently Symantec has partnered with ask.com who have a very long history of creating adware/spyware programs. Supposedly they have cleaned up their act but that remains to be seen. Partnership announcementhttp://www.symantec.com/about/news/release...rid=20090203_01This thread at CoU (Calendar of Updates) which has a huge ammout of posts about this and other vendors that have done the same with ask.com. The thread started in August of 2008 with certain vendors and now Symantec has also been added. CoU has already stopped posting updates for these vendors. There are also many resources in the same thread which show the history of ask.com.http://www.calendarofupdates.com/updates/i...c=16253&hl=Another link from a noted expert on thishttp://sunbeltblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/he...lbar-again.htmlThe program proposed for this is Norton 360 at the time of this note and not NAV which is what we post updates for but that may change over time. We are going to keep posting these updates but ONLY because many of our members use NAV. We wanted to inform people though about this suspect behavior from Symantec and to be careful with both this and other vendors that are resorting to this behavior. Thanks from your updates staff. marsh_0x
Hi Rv, but to add NIS 2010/2011 updates many times a day, longest I've seen is 7 minutes.Nice because it only adds what is new, not the entire data base like MBAM is always 5.5MB, gotta be hard on dial up users.I'm seeing NIS 2010 going for $27, 3 user license.Free upgrade to 2011 proven 3 times for me, why pay extra for 2011 ?New feature pop up shows when there is high CPU usage when MBAM or Spy Doctor does their auto scans.20 years now without a virus install, starting to feel cheated hahaMarsh Edited October 15, 2010 by marsh_0x
